October Challenging Challenge! Are YOU Ready?

Enter the October Challenge for a chance to win a Cricut cartridge courtesy of Memory Miser!

This month Memory Miser is letting you choose a cartridge if you’re the winner!  Here’s the cartridges you can choose from:  October 31st, Pumpkin Carving  or Thanksgiving!

The ”October Challenge” is…

“Make Me a Scrappy Scarecrow!”

What’s a “Scrappy Scarecrow”?  It’s a scarecrow  of any size, color, theme, etc., made out of any leftover “things” or repurposed items.  The scarecrow can be made out of ANYTHING.  You may opt to use paper, fabric, metal, clay, beads, items from your recycling bin or trash, etc. -whatever you can possibly come up with!  The whole point is to be as creatively unique as  possible!

Check out the first Scrappy Crow entered in the challenge for this month!

This awesome looking fella is named “Supa Scare” – the bird-flinging blingy scarecrow designed by Nadia Herbst-McConnell.  Nadia says, “He is made completely from found items at our house (it kinda shows).  His glittery head and bird are from leftover items from the church bazaar stuff I donated.  His base is a CD holder, wrapped in metal tape (leftover from attaching the dryer hose) and duct tape (that my husband borrowed from a neighbor last night for me).  The black and glitter papers on him are from my drawer of little scrap papers, the giant pipe cleaners are ones I raided from my DD’s craft stuff (she is 6 so it required trading and begging).  The rubber bands are from the asparagus that I cooked last night.  (How can a house not have any rubber bands except what shows up from the produce department??!!)  The raffia has to be from 1992, leftover a project I did then for school.  That is the only time I remember using it and I had quite a time remembering where I put it.  The felt is left over stock from when I thought that I needed every color made to create my little 2″ acorn fairies.  (Note:  2″ fairies do not require a case of felt to get completed).  The dowel rod inside him is leftover from DD’s birthday party in 2007 when the girls made magic wands.”

Designed by Kassi Hulet….Meet  2Cute2ScareBear.  He isn’t on a LO yet because I’m waiting for Halloween photos. =)

-3d (the flower on his pants is very 3d)
-rubberband  (used to tie dye the ribbon on the hat)
-masking tape (used to distress the hearts on the feet)
-feather (in the hat)
-letter P  (I used real levi Pants to make the overalls, and Paint, and Polka Dots)
-cricut carts used (Paper Doll Dress Up for the hat, Cindyloo for the flower, Preserves for the leaves)

Here’s the Dirty Details:

1.  The scarecrow must be 3-D or have 3-D parts somewhere on it.

2. The scarecrow must include at least one rubber band, one feather and duct or masking tape – any amount.

3.  The scarecrow must include at least one thing that starts with the letter “P” – the sky’s the limit here folks! *grin*

4.  The scarecrow must include something somewhere using your Cricut – ANYTHING from ANY cartridge.  It could be something sticking out of its pocket, held in it’s hand, stenciled on it’s shirt or pants, embroidered by using a Cricut stencil or a vinyl or fabric shape cut or traced using a Cricut shape/font.

5.  The scarecrow must be given a “funny fitting name.”

Please note, this scarecrow DOES NOT have to be a typical scarecrow that you place outdoors or in  your garden BUT most definitely can be! It can be a quilt, a necklace, a t-shirt, a scarecrow on a scrapbook layout, a card, a wall hanging, etc….

Send  a picture of your entry to olivejuicestudio@yahoo.com so I can post them here.  The contest ends 11:59 PM, October 31st (that’s Halloween night!).  The method for selecting a winner will be determined by a group of individuals that I will form throughout the month so be on the lookout – you might be asked to help!

Run along now, roll up those sleeves and get your craft on!  I can’t wait to see your awesome scrappy scarecrow creations!
