Dirty Diaper Tricks…AND…Treats for Halloween!

2010
10.28

A GREAT UNEXPECTED SURPRISE!   Check out what I’m giving to my neighborhood trick or treaters this year!

I had my neighbor who just had a baby load me up with some freshly made diapers! *wink-wink* Okay -  not really but that’s exactly what the kiddos in my neighborhood will think when I hand them a diaper from either a cauldron or a Diaper Genie (okay folks – I am a prankster but I think only a NEW Diaper Genie would suffice *grin*).  There are a couple of things you need to successfully pull this off….Make sure to have a soundtrack of a crying baby in the background, wear a clothespin on your nose or pinch your nose as you hand a dirty diaper treat bag to each of the kids.  I can guarantee a look of horror and surprise!  Bwa-Haaa-HaaaaaaAAAaaa!!

How’d I do it?

Make a run to Walmart or another discount store and grab yourself a pack of newborn to size 1-2 diapers

Pick up a box of disposable diaper bags – I found these bags at the Dollar Tree Store!

A bunch of tootsie rolls in a variety of sizes or just a mixture of candy to wrap up inside

Of course, a funky cool container to hold your dirty diaper collection…I used a witch’s cauldron but REALLY think a Diaper Genie (new!) would rock!

Step 1.  Gather all of your supplies

Step 2.  Open up each diaper and place your “treats” inside.  It’s up to you to determine how generous you want to make your dirty diaper!

Step 3.  Roll up the diaper just like you would with a real dirty diaper!  It’s been about five years since I’ve had to do this – I wrapped the first so tightly that the “treat” leaked out the sides!  Oops!  Can’t have that!  Once I loosened it up a bit it rolled right up just like any other dirty diaper!

Step 4.  Drop each diaper into a bag and knot.

Step 5. Drop your collection in a diaper bucket, cauldron or whatever else you want to use.

I just decided to add a tag to each diaper -with some funny sayings like “P.U. What’s that horrible smell?…. Hey Stinker….Happy Halloween!….The stinks on you….etc…
“

Olive a great prank, don’t you?

“I Vant My Mummy” Tag

2010
10.24

Mummy?  Is that you?!

This is a little tag I tucked in with Ladybug Linda’s Mystery Prize that she won last month.  It was such a quick project and took me less than 10 minutes to complete.  I could just sit and decorate manila tags for days on end and never have the same design.  Feeling stressed?  Try it!  It’s great therapy – in fact, I think I’m going to go make a mountain of them right now! *grin*

How’d I do it?

Ingredients:

1 manila shipping tag ( I bought a pack from Office Depot or cut a bunch with your Cricut for those tag making moments!)

Stamp (“Stampabilities Mummy-UR1008″)

Copic Spica Glitter Marker – Gold and  Black

8 small amber colored rhinestones

Small piece of sparkly green velvet ribbon (I found it at Hobby Lobby)

Black ink pad ( I used Stampin’ Up Black Craft Ink)

Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and Antique Linen

Glue for the rhinestones (I used Beacon’s 3-in-1 Glue)

Directions:

1.  Ink the tag edges and front using Tim Holtz Distress Inks is Antique Linen.  Use the Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.

2.  Stamp the mummy image to the tag front.

3.  Usng a Copic  Spica Glitter Marker in GOLD, color in the mummy.

4.  Add a doodled squiggly line around the four sides of the tag front using a Copic Spica Glitter Marker in BLACK.

5.  Glue amber colored rhinestones to the top and bottom front of the tag (use photo for placement).

6.  Tie a piece of sparkly green velvet ribbon to the bottom of the tag – knot and trim.

7.  Add  a sentiment to the back or leave as is.

Tags are such a fun addition to a card or gift.  I like slipping a finished tag inside a card to be used as a bookmark, tied to a gift bag, used on a scrapbook page, the front of a card, etc.   Are you a tag maker?  If so, I’d love to see what you’ve made!  Please share your URL here or send your photos and I’ll post them here!

Let’s see if I can squeeze some craft time out of my Sunday….keep your fingers crossed! *grin*

Madam Eggplant and Her Pepper Possee….

2010
10.23

Hey Folks!  I’m alive…REALLY and fine (in a warped sense of way)…*insert grin here* Many of you have sent me emails asking where I have been the past few weeks….thank you for taking the time and for expressing an interest in my whereabouts – it’s so very kind of you!  Let me see if I can enlighten you with my latest adventure…ready for this one?  It’s a crazy one to say the least!

I was here….in Pennsylvania with only a camera – no paper scraps, glue dots or glitter available on this trip (although, I did have a notepad and camera so I used my free moments wisely to make plans for future posts and projects)…it was a whirlwind impromptu four day surprise….

No crafting time in Maryland either…such beautiful country….I wish I got better photos of the mountains and rolling hills colored in such gorgeous fall hues…

I’m the Children’s Social Chair for our homeowners association and had to plan an annual picnic full of kid friendly fun for children ages 0-103 This is a photo of my lost twin sister…*wink* she really liked my creative ideas so she tried to take me hostage and was successful until Sponge Bob came to the rescue…(I’m inside the black rolling suitcase…) Yes, I do have red hair but that really is NOT me – seriously!

Here’s a photo of my hero….in the background you can see us running from the minions – crafty kids can be so crazy!

There was no time for crafting this evening either…. we went on a hayride and weenie roast at Corron Farms in St. Charles. I had to protect  the frankfurters….see the dead ones sprinkled around the fire?  Yep, that was a tough job but someone had to do it…

Then I was spotted by the paparazzi at a local apple orchard…we went to pick apples but there were no apples to be picked so we picked up apple cider donuts and had a tailgate snack…we got our daily serving of fruit – yeah, about that…!

No time for crafting on this day either….had to make time  to jump on a ginormous inflatable bouncy thing-a-ma-jiggy that was partly buried in sand – so cool and caused some major giggly fun along with some seriously red sweaty cheeks…

So then we found some apple trees on another adventure….but the funny thing was you couldn’t pick the apples so we did some posing as though we were picking (note the red cheeks caused from the bouncing above..)

Oops!  Busted!  I was spotted posing with my boys…I feel like I’m in a “Where’s Waldo?” book…(check out those RED cheeks!)

One day, about three weeks ago, I was in my backyard working in the flower beds when I happened to see movement coming from my veggie garden.  I stopped moving and stood very still hoping to catch what little critter was out there taking a bite out of each of the tomatoes.  I moved very slowly toward the garden with my kung fu moves in place ready to attack.  More rustling so I stopped  and waited…and waited until I saw the most unexpected thing ever…….what I saw explained pretty much everything!  We had been invaded by

MADAM EGGPLANT AND HER PEPPER POSSEE!

Now, if you had to fight off an invasion of rabid veggies you’d disappear temporarily too – the only way to get these ghastly creatures under control is to eat them!  The bad thing is that there’s a reproduction problem happening in my garden even after three frosts! Every day they continue to multiply – some with fangs, some with snaggle teeth….but they all seem to have one thing in common -to keep me from crafting!  (Note Mr. Peppa’s mouth is missing…I was hungry, what can I say?)

Madam Eggplant really needs to see a dentist, don’t you think?  Seriously, some eggplants!

Anyway, after all of the “excitement” this past month I’m ready for a break but I don’t foresee that happening for a while….I will post when I can and hope you keep checking back until the crazy storm called life settles down a bit….I do have a few fun Halloween surprises I’m hoping to finish and post this week, along with my own scarecrow for the October Challenging Challenge so do make sure to check back often.  I will be back to regular posts as soon as I can!

Olive a great adventure, don’t you?

Glow-in-the-Dark Skull Tag

2010
10.10

I mean, who doesn’t need a glow-in-the-dark skull tag?

Doesn’t everyone?

I have more to share but I’m off and running the roads today!  Make sure to check back later and throughout the week for more creepy craft ideas!  Bwa-ha-haaaa!

Ingredients:

Happy Hauntings Cricut cartridge

Cricut

manilla shipping tag

scrap piece of black  and cream damask print paper (this is from Paper Studio)

cream colored cardstock OR a piece of a manila folder

Scraps of black paper large enough to cut the skull base

orange and green glittered velvet ribbon

1 orange button

1 lime green button

stapler

preferred adhesive

Spray adhesive for the glitter

Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and Antique Linen

Martha Stewart Glow-in-the-Dark Glitter

Directions:

1.  Cut the skull at 4″ – use the black paper for the base/blackout cut.  Use the manila for the top layer.  Assemble.

2.  Spray the front of the skull with spray adhesive and cover with Martha Stewart Glow-in-the-Dark Glitter.  Tap off excess.

3.  Ink the edges of the tag with both inks.  Use more of the Antique Linen and lightly edge with the Vintage Photo.

4.  Cut a strip of the black and cream damask paper to fit the front of the tag.  Snip the top two corners to fit on the tag.  Ink the edges and adhere to the manila tag.

5.  Attach the skull to the bottom of the tag.  Snip of the base of the skull if it hangs off the tag.

6.  Tie a piece of green glittery velvet ribbon to the bottom of the tag so that it covers the bottom edge of the skull.  Fray the ends of the ribbon.

7.  Remove the white cord from the top of the tag.  Thread through the orange button and tie in a bow.  Cut off excess.  Glue the orange button to the top of a lime green button slightly larger than the orange one.  Glue to the top of the hole on the tag.

8.  Attach a piece of orange and green velvet ribbon to the top of the tag.  Staple to the back. Fray the ends.

9. Add a sentiment to the back of the tag if you dare or if you’ll be using it on a card, layout or another spooky project get it on it and then send me a picture so I can admire your creepy craft! *wink*

Enjoy your Sunday!  I am off and running to a local Fall Festival with my family.  It’s 86 degrees in Illinois – definitely not fall like BUT beautiful!

Olive a fast craft idea, don’t you?

BIG NEWS….

2010
10.09

I know it’s all about the Haunted Halloween Blog Hop this weekend and my posts are all supposed to be creepy ghoulish and spooky but heck I’ve got some fab news I just can’t hold back any longer…Curious?

Guess what?

HE’S HERE…!!!

Big Bessie (a.k.a my Cricut Expression), Bernouli (a.k.a  Baby “Original” Cricut),  Charlie (a.k.a my Cuttlebug King)  and Gertrude (a.k.a my neglected Gypsy) are squeezing together in some seriously close encounters as we make room for  the newest addition to our Cricut family member…. Kim wonders to herself “I wonder if we have a mutant in the making?” (Insert snicker here…tisk-tisk such a naughty thought)

Please let me introduce to you… what the stork …er…I mean the Fed Ex Man brought to my door this morning….

Isn’t he just soooooo handsome?!  I’m bubbling over with glee and can’t help but scoot over real close to him to take a peek.every few minutes because I just can’t believe he’s FINALLY here!

I’m having a hard time coming up with a name for this fella.  And YES, it is official.  It is a boy.  How do I know?  Well duh…I looked under the hood.  It’s not what I saw, it’s what I didn’t see – know what I mean jelly bean?

So  anyway, I need your help.  My husband thinks “we” should name “our” new addition Einstein (not sure what’s up with the “we” and ”our” thing today but I’m too excited to care.)  My boy’s think Frank (as in Frankenstein) or Hal 2000 would be fitting….  I need a REALLY good name for this fella because he is quite fine, very sleek, very strong and VERY mighty.  If you’ve got any ideas give me a shout – we definitely can’t have a nameless Cricut family member creating crafterpieces in my studio, you know?

Here’s the stats:

Name:  ——–

DOB: Saturday, October 9, 2010

Time of Birth:  8:33PM

Weight:  Heavy.  I have three bulged discs so my husband had to open the box and pull our new fella out of his cocoon.

Length:  Long.  Longer than I was prepared for.  I will need to put an addition on to accomodate my ever expanding Cricut family and this is a BIG BOY.

Proud Parents:  That’d be me Mama Olive —do I dare let my husband claim ownership?  Maybe….just maybe. He is a pretty good husband so I may have to let him play with him on occasion….

Fun times ahead my friends… I CAN’T WAIT!!!

Olive giggly giddy news, don’t you?

    A Newsprint Pumpkin Candy Bucket

    2010
    10.09

Turn a Dollar Store plastic pumpkin trick or treat bucket into vintage decor to add to your Halloween festivities!

    INGREDIENTS:

    Cricut

    Pumpkin Carving Cricut cartridge

    Black Vinyl

    Sheet Music OR Book Pages

    Decoupage Glue

    Orange Pom Pom Fringe

Hot Glue Gun or another strong adhesive

Black Printed Fabric Scraps OR Ribbon Scraps

    DIRECTIONS:

    1.  Tear strips of sheet music or bookprint pages into all different sizes.  This project will require several pages and the final amount will depend on how many layers you add to your pumpkin.

    2.  Apply adhesive to the pumpkin with your fingers, a foam brush or paint brush to one small section at a time. Begin by adding strips of the torn paper to the adhesive covered pumpkin making sure to overlap the ends.  As your adding paper strips have extra decoupage available to “paint” over the top of the strips – this forms a sealant and keeps the paper from lifting or being ruined by water damage.  Make sure to also add decoupage glue where the paper strips seem to lift or between paper layers.

    3.  Most of the plastic pumpkin buckets have indentations where the eyes, nose and mouth are located.  When you are decoupaging this area, add extra layers to help fill in these indentations so it’s not noticeable to the eye.

    4. Once the whole pumpkin has been decoupaged with the amount of layers you desire cover the entire pumpkin with one more thin coat of decoupage glue OR a spray sealant.

    5.  Next, you need a piece of black vinyl – at least 10 x 10  and the Pumpkin Carving Cricut cartridge.  Set your size at 7″.  You’re going to “kiss cut” the vinyl so that the vinyl is cut but not the paper backing – this makes it easier to remove the vinyl.  Set your  blade pressure to 6 and your pressure to 2.  Select whichever image you desire.

    6.  You can either use George or Plantin Schoolbook to cut the triangle nose or just cut one by hand if you choose the same pumpkin face.

    7.  Add either a strip of hot glue or strong holding liquid adhesive to the top of the pumpkin to hold the orange pom pom fringe in place.

    8.  Cut strips of fabric or ribbon and tie onto the plastic strap handle.

Add any extra detail such as inking, spritzing with Walnut Ink or Glimmer Mist or brush on diluted  Tim Holtz Distress Ink Tea Stain Dye Refill to age the pumpkin.

I hope you liked it and have fun personalizing your own plastic pumpkin bucket into an adorable part of your Halloween decor!

Olive a simple craft project, don’t you?

October Challenging Challenge! Are YOU Ready?

    2010
    10.02

Enter the October Challenge for a chance to win a Cricut cartridge courtesy of Memory Miser!

This month Memory Miser is letting you choose a cartridge if you’re the winner!  Here’s the cartridges you can choose from:  October 31st, Pumpkin Carving  or Thanksgiving!

    The ”October Challenge” is…

    “Make Me a Scrappy Scarecrow!”

What’s a “Scrappy Scarecrow”?  It’s a scarecrow  of any size, color, theme, etc., made out of any leftover “things” or repurposed items.  The scarecrow can be made out of ANYTHING.  You may opt to use paper, fabric, metal, clay, beads, items from your recycling bin or trash, etc. -whatever you can possibly come up with!  The whole point is to be as creatively unique as  possible!

Check out the first Scrappy Crow entered in the challenge for this month!

This awesome looking fella is named “Supa Scare” – the bird-flinging blingy scarecrow designed by Nadia Herbst-McConnell.  Nadia says, “He is made completely from found items at our house (it kinda shows).  His glittery head and bird are from leftover items from the church bazaar stuff I donated.  His base is a CD holder, wrapped in metal tape (leftover from attaching the dryer hose) and duct tape (that my husband borrowed from a neighbor last night for me).  The black and glitter papers on him are from my drawer of little scrap papers, the giant pipe cleaners are ones I raided from my DD’s craft stuff (she is 6 so it required trading and begging).  The rubber bands are from the asparagus that I cooked last night.  (How can a house not have any rubber bands except what shows up from the produce department??!!)  The raffia has to be from 1992, leftover a project I did then for school.  That is the only time I remember using it and I had quite a time remembering where I put it.  The felt is left over stock from when I thought that I needed every color made to create my little 2″ acorn fairies.  (Note:  2″ fairies do not require a case of felt to get completed).  The dowel rod inside him is leftover from DD’s birthday party in 2007 when the girls made magic wands.”

Designed by Kassi Hulet….Meet  2Cute2ScareBear.  He isn’t on a LO yet because I’m waiting for Halloween photos. =)

-3d (the flower on his pants is very 3d)
-rubberband  (used to tie dye the ribbon on the hat)
-masking tape (used to distress the hearts on the feet)
    -feather (in the hat)
-letter P  (I used real levi Pants to make the overalls, and Paint, and Polka Dots)
-cricut carts used (Paper Doll Dress Up for the hat, Cindyloo for the flower, Preserves for the leaves)

    Here’s the Dirty Details:

    1.  The scarecrow must be 3-D or have 3-D parts somewhere on it.

    2. The scarecrow must include at least one rubber band, one feather and duct or masking tape – any amount.

    3.  The scarecrow must include at least one thing that starts with the letter “P” – the sky’s the limit here folks! *grin*

    4.  The scarecrow must include something somewhere using your Cricut – ANYTHING from ANY cartridge.  It could be something sticking out of its pocket, held in it’s hand, stenciled on it’s shirt or pants, embroidered by using a Cricut stencil or a vinyl or fabric shape cut or traced using a Cricut shape/font.

    5.  The scarecrow must be given a “funny fitting name.”

Please note, this scarecrow DOES NOT have to be a typical scarecrow that you place outdoors or in  your garden BUT most definitely can be! It can be a quilt, a necklace, a t-shirt, a scarecrow on a scrapbook layout, a card, a wall hanging, etc….

Send  a picture of your entry to olivejuicestudio@yahoo.com so I can post them here.  The contest ends 11:59 PM, October 31st (that’s Halloween night!).  The method for selecting a winner will be determined by a group of individuals that I will form throughout the month so be on the lookout – you might be asked to help!

Run along now, roll up those sleeves and get your craft on!  I can’t wait to see your awesome scrappy scarecrow creations!

Olive a challenging challenge, don’t you?
