Snowflake Christmas Ornament Project & Tutorial

2010
08.19

Designed by Theresa (**Treefrog**) Kelly

To see more of Theresa’s beautiful work please visit her blog at http://www.binkyblossoms.blogspot.com)

Supplies you will need:

Cricut (cartridge used: Home Accents) There are numerous snowflakes on different cartridges and When it’s Cold Outside is all snowflakes! Or cut your own!

Glass Christmas Ornaments (the ones that the loop piece will come off.)

Cardstock Xyron or good old white glue or any glue you prefer to use

Glitter or stickles Beads

Jewelry findings (Jump rings, straight head pins and filler pieces) Various jewelry tools

Hole punch Ribbon

I did this on Design Studio, the larger ornament snowflakes were cut at 6” and the smaller were cut at 5”. I got my Christmas ornaments at Wal-Mart last year after Christmas on clearance, you could get them just about anywhere or use ones you already have at home.

Beaded baubles: Use a head pin to make your beaded baubles. Add a smaller bead, filler piece, bead, filler piece and last a smaller bead. Bend and make a loop, trim to finish the loop to add to the jump ring. (If you don’t have jump rings you could use decorative ribbon or string also)

Decorate your Xmas ornaments any way you want to. You can use glitter, double stick tape, glue, punched double stick tape designs, buttons, gems, beads, pre-stuck rhinestone designs (ex. swirls) just about anything you want to add on the ornaments, the sky’s the limit. (Hey, you could even add clouds on there, LOL!)

Snowflakes: I glued 3 cardstock snowflakes together to give it some stability. (You could use chipboard if you like) I ran the glued snowflakes thru the xyron machine to add my glitter then used good ole regular glue to glitter the other side. Let dry. You could also use stickles and just go around the edges also or coat the whole snowflake. Punch a hole in 3 of the snowflake arms to add your baubles to. (you could even add a bauble to each arm if you want too) Add your jump ring to the punched hole with your bauble on it and close up the jump ring.

You could use some of the beautiful pre-glittered double sided patterned papers there are out there, You could even use silk flowers or use your Cricut to cut out flowers for a spring time tree.

Now to assemble: Pull off the metal ornament topper (the part that has the loop that you would attach to the tree) Add the snowflakes to the top (you may need to make the snowflake hole opening bigger to fit onto the top of the ornament) Re-attach the metal ornament topper, attach a bow and hanger to the loop and your ornament is ready to hang on the tree or in a window or as a centerpiece or use your imagination, there are SOOOOOO many possibilities.

I sure hope I’ve inspired you to make some of these and please drop by my blog: Binky Blossoms and share your creations with me, I would LOVE to see them and if you do make some please mention where you got the idea (remember I did inspire you, lol). Thanks and have fun with it, there are SOOOO many possibilities with these and I want to Thank Kim for putting up with me this week, I had a blast and I hope I haven’t bored you, even if I did, I sure had fun (see I lead a very simple life, LOL) Well Thanks again Kim, I hope we can do this again some time, but next time in person, hopefully!

Take Care everyone and Froggie ((Hugs)) To all,

Theresa

Ribbit-Ribbit…Check Out Part II of Theresa Kelly’s Interview!

2010
08.19

Ribbit…..Ribbit…Theresa? Is that you?  Oh, it’s just one of those CRICKETS…

How about sticking around for a few minutes while we get to learn a little more about Theresa Kelly aka TreeFrog by hearing the rest of her story….grab a cuppa tea or whatever you need….ready?  Alrighty then!

My Creativity – Theresa Kelly from Binky Blossoms Blog

1. If you could take a class with any crafty celebrity who would it be and why? Tim Holtz, do I really need to say why, who wouldn’t, he’s the KING of Distress/Grunge/Vintage/Embellish/more is less…..I could go on and on and on and on and on and on…………….!

2What are your favorite crafts to dabble in and why? Other than Paper Crafts, Sewing, Painting, Crochet, Jewelry making, Collage, Mixed Media and I know I’m missing a few, LOL! I’ll try just about anything!3. Which crafts have you explored but don’t really care for? Fake Stained Glass!

3 What craft have you NOT tried yet but would like to in the near future? Real Stained Glass! (Kim:  Super cool but I lost most of my digits playing with broken glass.  It’s been years but it was really fun)

4 The number one craft supply you can never be without other than adhesive! Well Duh, Paper! (Kim: Duhhhhh!)

5 Do you scrapbook? YES, doesn’t everyone! Why do you scrapbook and what is your favorite thing to scrap? I love to scrap for my own personal enjoyment and to hand something down to my kids and grandkids and of course that is my favorite thing to scrap, family! I love to make scrapbook layouts but love to do mini books and alter things also! (Kim:  You are the scrappy mama)

6. Are you a card maker? Yes, really got into it this last year! (Kim:  Really  you just started making cards this year?  Beautiful work.  You know I think that though)

7. Have you ever sold anything you’ve made? Yes, I make recycled denim aprons and sell them. I’ve also sold some cards and mini albums. ( Kim:  I’ve seen your stuff on Etsy and it’s awesome!)

8. What/Who inspires you? (I know, I know it’s me!) Um let’s see……… Kim Du Chene LOL! (You really are inspiring Kim and have LOTS of great ideas and tips) I love all the gals on the Design Team I’m on which is “Bitten By The Bug 2” and numerous other’s that I would need days to tell you them all! (Kim:  I’m rolling my eyes…I was just kidding…YOU INSPIRE ME)

9. What do you do when the mojo is no where to be found? I get on the internet and check out the MB’s or go to my favorite blogs. Or I just pull out some papers and just turn on Design Studio and pick a cartridge and go for it! (Kim:  Sounds like a good mojo booster)

10. What craft/technique are you planning to try in the near future? I would love to learn how to do Stained Glass, I’ve always loved it and always wanted to try it. (Kim:  Try taking a class somewhere or just looking on craigslist or ebay for used tools.  I like the look of it but like I said I was always cutting myself – it’s hard typing with only my thumbs and pinkies these days)

11. If you had to place all of your craft supplies in one box what size would you need? Do those moving/storage crates count!???? (Kim:  Well yeah!)

12. Which shapes/patterns do you find yourself using the most in your creative endeavors? Flowers and Swirls, I love everything but it always seems that flowers and swirls are somewhere on my creations. (Kim:  You’re right….I just hopped over to see for myself and almost everything has flowers and swirls)

13. Is there a particular color you are drawn to when crafting? Green, everything pretty much goes with Green so it seems everything I do has green in it! (Kim:  Green makes a great accent color…I seem to use a lot of it too)

14. What one thing needs to be done to pretty much every single thing you make before it looks like it’s finished? I always seem to add some bling or sparkle (even on a Dinosaur layout I added some sparkle, LOL) (Kim:  OMGosh I have so much bling around here if it were real I’d be a multi-billionare….but no…we’re not even talking cubic zirconia)

15. How did you come up with your blog name and Cricut board screen name? My Blog name is from my little (pyshco) Yorkie Binky and Blossoms is because I Love flowers and we have a “blossoming” new life out here in the country (yeah I know kinda corny, but didn’t it sound good, LOL!) And my MB name (Treefrog) is a name I’ve had pretty much all my life. (The story is one of the funniest moments in my life from a couple of days ago! LOL) (Kim:  Sooo let me get this straight…you have a psycho (dog) named Binky andddd you LOVE flowers sooooo….hmmmm….very very clever.  I thought for sure this was something  McCade might have said when he was toddlin’ around a few years back but no…it’s because of your dog.  Funny funny story!)

16. Are you on any design teams? Oops I already gave that one away above but the answer is yes, Bitten By The Bug2. (Kim:  They definitely got a winner when they picked you -and Nooo “winner” is not code for something sarcastic..I’m serious!)

17. Have you ever entered any contests/challenges and won? Yes, that is kinda how I got asked to be on the Design Team at BBTB2 Also I won a couple of times on the Frosted Design blog and I may have something in the works pretty soon. I’ll keep you posted about that one. (Hee Hee Hee very mischievously said!) (Kim:  Did you….?!  Really?? )

18. What is your favorite thing about blogging? Well I don’t have many friends here in KY so it’s kinda like a virtual world to share my love of crafting and scrapping and hopefully I can inspire people with my stuff! I’ve met ALOT of great people since I’ve started my blog and hopefully one day I’ll actually get to meet them! That’s how I met Kim in the blogasphere world! (see I knew I should have invited myself to your place for CHA because now your moving and I won’t have a place to stay next year, LOL!) (Kim:  We haven’t moved YET….we’re still tossing around the idea…but 200 miles a day for a commute…ugh….regardless, I’ll only be two hours away from Chicago!)

19. Are you having fun being the Master Olive on Olive Juice Studio’s blog? Heck Yeah! Why? Well as you can tell I love to talk (not that anyone is listening! The Hubs tells me that all the time, Huh, what, did you say something…..!) (Kim: Now people can read about you forever and ever…or as long as this blog is never deleted like my last one was by mean ol’ BLOGGER.)

20. Are you a morning, night or all day crafter? All Day! Ask my family, if I’m in the zone or on a dead line they have to fend for themselves. (Kim:  Isn’t that the truth)

21. If you find an incredible piece of scrapbook paper that is the perfect color, pattern, etc…do you find that you use it right away or hold on tight because it’s too pretty to use? Aren’t those the ones that we aren’t allowed to use or are we saposta use those, I forget! (Kim:  I have sooooo much paper and soooo much stuff I no longer hold on to pretty papers for the “just right” project because there’s usually many more sheets of pretty paper to choose from for the next project.)

22. Are you a paper hoarder? Yes with patterned papers but not cardstock. (Kim:  I have too much paper.  I have to stop buying it)

23. Do you spend more time crafting/scrapping or shopping? Crafting/scrapping, I spend way to much time on some of my things! I usually have a list when I go shopping so I pretty much know what I need to get. (Kim:  I used to spend more time shopping and now I rarely ever go shopping because I think I own every craft item ever made.  I’m not sure how that happened either ::::insert confused look here just in case my husband is reading this::::)

24. What is your favorite thing to create? I’ve really been into making Layouts lately. I kind of go through phases, I was into making mini’s for awhile, then cards, altered items, ATC’s (which is great to try out new techniques) so anyway it’s what I’m into at the moment! LOL (Kim:  Some people are hooked on phonics…I’m hooked on making tags and ATC’s right now…LOVE ‘em)

25.   Do you have a favorite craft magazine? Scrapbooks Ect. and Paper Crafts Mag. (Kim:  There’s so many great ones I have a hard time choosing)

26. Are you a DS or Gyspy user? I’m still into using my DS and recently got a Gypsy and still learning how to use it sooooo……. I love the portability of it and not having to drag out my cartridges. I just have to figure out how to use it better and I think I would love it just as much as DS! How often do you use it/them? I use it almost everyday. What do you use these programs for? I use them for ideas, I make my layouts on the first page and then work from them, then use them for my layouts, cards, design team items, heck EVERYTHING! (Kim:  I have DS and just got a Gypsy but think there’s something wrong with me.  I must not think like the rest of you crafters because I just don’t get it.  I feel challenged.  I met Audrey Felix from the Cute and Some Blog and she is a master with DS and has offered to teach me how to use it.  I bet she doesn’t know what she got herself into when she offered to do this…I just don’t think in a DS/Gypsy way….I’m pathetic)

27. What is your favorite shape and font Cricut cartridges? I don’t have it yet but Country Life (I already have some layouts in the works, LOL) and Lyrical Letter’s for a font, it has a great variety! (Kim:  I don’t have this one yet either but I really want it!)

28. How many cartridges do you own? As of today 45 with 3 on the way and as you all know it will always keep growing, LOL! (Kim:  I don’t even know how many I have…)

29. How often do you use your Cricut each week? At least 5 times a week! (Kim:  Awesome!)

30. Bling or grunge? Can’t I have both, please!!!!!!! (Kim:  Absolutely, that’s my style!)

My Random Thoughts to Kim’s Random Questions

1. If given the option to change professions what would you choose? I would love to have been a Flight Attendant. I would have loved to travel! (Kim:  I wonder if you would LOL all the time in the air too…)

2. What place in the U.S. would you .like to visit? Oh there is soooo many in the U.S  I want to go but I’ve always wanted to go to New York at Christmas time. I want to see all the store windows and all the decorations. (Kim:  I’ve heard that’s quite the sight to see)

5. If you were walking through a park and a genie appeared handing you a paper bag with $100,000 in cash with the instructions that you must get rid of it within in four hours, what would you do with it? I know everybody’s going to think I am selfish but that genie said I had to use that money on myself (he really did say that, LOL) so I would go and get me a new truck and a boat! We need another vehicle and I’ve been wanting to buy a boat but I don’t want any payments, LOL! (Kim:  I think I heard the Genie say that very thing too)

12. Do you collect anything? What is it? Like you had to ask, Frogs of course! LOL (Kim:  Huh?  I thought you just tried eating them and using them for your alias up until this week and now everyone is going to expect your gorgeous mug shot to be plastered across America!)

Get to Know Theresa Kelly aka TreeFrog, Part 1 of Her Interview

2010
08.18

Hi Everyone!  Today, I’m going to share with you the next part of Theresa’s story by posting her interview questions and responses.  Tomorrow will be Part II of the interview and then on Friday a super duper project and tutorial for one of the upcoming holidays.  I haven’t seen it yet myself but I was told by Theresa that I would LOVE it and so will all of you!  Please feel free to leave comments for either Theresa or me this week.  Ask questions, leave your thoughts, tell us if you ever spotted Treefrog somewhere lurking about..!

 ABOUT ME…

1. Your full name Theresa Kelly (aka: **Treefrog** on most message boards)   (Kim:  I’m glad that the mystery of TreeFrog Kelly has been solved this week.  I’m taking full credit of releasing you from your incognito alias)

2. Are you married? Yes To Ken for 15 years (And we ALWAYS forget our anniversary!) (Kim:  He sounds like a great guy, especially since you said he laughs at my dumb posts *grin*)

3. Do you have children? How many and how old? Yes, 3, Brian 29, Dawn 26, and McCade 9. (All I can say is Oops!) I also have 3 Grandkids, Molly 6, Madison 5, and Ethan 1, and I miss them terribly, they don’t live close by! Maybe one day! (I’m trying to finagle a way to get them here and then not return them, LOL!) (Kim:  40 is not too old to have a baby these days.  I don’t think McCade was necessarily an OOPS but more like an unexpected treasure *smile*  He seems like the sweetest kid!)

4. What is your favorite color (Red, love love love it, if I could have a red house I would, but I had to settle for a red roof and shutters, LOL), food (Fried Chicken and Ken makes the best!), holiday (Christmas of course! But I also love Thanksgiving because we go to Ohio every year to visit family, McCade loves his Aunt Heather and cousin Jessica, they spoil him rotten!), day of the week (Monday, it’s the day I get the most done around the house), time of the day (mornings, when everyone else is asleep), season (Spring and Fall, can I have 2?), craft supply (My Cricut, Gypsy and Design Studio and LOTS of paper), television show (Glee), movie (Gone With The Wind ,I think I’ve watched it a million times!), book(s) (Political Books, I like to know what’s going on in the world! And The Left Behind Series, what a contrast huh!), song (I listen to mostly Country but don’t have an actual favorite), actor/actress (Don’t really have a fav but I like Sam Elliot, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Nicholas Cage, Tommy Lee Jones, hum, all men……and good looking ones at that! LOL) comedian (Rodney Carrington), place to shop (Any Scrap/Craft store and if I had to pick one other than Hobby Lobby), visit (I would love to go to Italy one day) (Kim:  That’s funny you said you’d have a red house if you could because my husband has heard me say that same thing over and over.  I would LOVE a red house but instead I have lots of red walls and red furniture.  I just can’t get enough of the color.  Plus, I have red hair, my oldest son is a redhead….you would think I’d get sick of the color!)

5. What do you like to do in your free time? Scrap, Craft or Alter/refinish/refurbish furniture   (Kim:  Oh yeah!  Bring it on!  I’d love to see some of your refurbished furniture.  I should take photos of some of the pieces I “pimped up.” *wink*)

6. Who is your idol/hero? That would be my Dad! He was Amazing, and so down to earth, everyone Loved him!  (Kim:  That’s awesome.  I bet he thought the same of you! *smile*)

 7. What five adjectives would you use to describe who you are as a person? Trustworthy, Honest, Imaginative, Loyal, Organized (as much as my family allows me to be!) (Kim:  See!  I knew you were a good person)

 8. If I were to ask your significant other, friend or family member who knows you very well to describe you as a person what five adjectives do you think they would choose? Loud, Funny, Honest, Organized, Straight Forward/To the point.   (Kim:  Loud?  Is that because you are always LOLing? *smile*)

9.  Do you have a favorite saying/quote? Yes What is it? What goes around, comes around! My Dad used to say that all the time and it is soooo true, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve actually seen it come true so I try and live by that motto!  (Kim: Yep, that is a good one and I have to say this usually does happen.  I also live by the easy to remember quote “practice what you preach.” )

10. Favorite genre of music…. Country and Bluegrass  (Kim:  A little twang never hurt anyone.  I used to be heavy into the country but nowadays I listen to pretty much everything.)

11. List your pet peeves… Rude/Lazy People, Messes, The Government! (Enough Said!)  (Kim: Amen sista!)

12. What was your most embarrassing moment? (Hopefully not this!) When I was a kid we used to go in the flood control where we lived and catch frogs and tadpoles which was right next to the police station and one day we had our buckets and cups and were getting ready to head home with our “catch” of the day and the Police helicopter took off and came over head and told us to leave or the police were coming, well I was climbing up the ladder to get out with the cup of tiny tadpoles and frogs in my mouth (I still can’t believe I would have done that, yuck) but I looked up at the helicopter   and you guessed it, everything in the cup went ALL over/in me. In my mouth, down my shirt, in my hair, and whoever was behind me even got it! Everyone was laughing, even the police in the helicopter were laughing (that’s how close they were and found out years later they always knew when we were in the flood control and didn’t really care but that day they were trying to be funny and scare us) Well from that day on I was known as Treefrog!  (Kim: Maybe it’s because of my warped sense of humor but this question and the next one  are my favorites in the interview.  It always makes me giggle what you gals share with all of us!  Love the story and can only imagine how freaked out you must had been!)

13. What was the funniest thing that has ever happened to you or you have done to someone else? (Other than the frogs/tadpoles all over me!) Was when we moved out here it was our first year and our first snow (you have to remember I grew up in So. California and I hadn’t seen snow till I was 18 yrs. old and itonly snowed in Vegas a couple of times but didn’t last too long.) and there was a board in the yard and I thought I would hop onto it to get out of the snow and hopped and my feet came right out from under me like I was flying (the board was iced over). I was laughing so hard I was crying (literally, and I even think I peed my pants, I don’t know I was all wet and covered in snow!) and every time I would try and get up I would fall again, my husband, son and neighbors were laughing so hard they couldn’t even get to me to help me. They said it looked like someone kept knocking my feet out from under me. Finally I gave up trying to get up and just crawled to the door. (OMG I’m sitting here laughing thinking about it and the hubs asked what’s so funny and I told him what I was writing and he’s on the floor laughing again, said it was the funniest things he’d ever seen!) I’ve fallen numerous other times since then too, I just can’t seem to stay on my feet here, LOL! And the dogs have knocked me down a few times also!  (Kim:  I have a hard time standing on both feet too – even on dry ground *wink*)

14. Share a memorable moment in your life, a time you will never forget. Well it would have to be the birth of all of my children. Each one was totally different but very memorable.  (Kim: moments that are hard to forget)

15. What do you find yourself doing that you said you would never ever do? Being loud just like my Mother (she was full blooded Italian, so use your imagination!) And I do have a tendency to curse at times! LOL  (Kim:  I imagine you laughing loudly…A LOT…am I right?  It has to be because of all of the LOLing in our emails *wink*)

16. Name three things you are completely and utterly proud of. Building Our own House! think that counts as ALL Three and then some, LOL!  (Kim:  My hubby built our house in Michigan and you’re right – it does count for all three thingsthat you’re utterly proud of because that’s a MAJOR feat)

17. Do you consider yourself to be a risk taker? Well Yes and No, Well if selling your home and then tracking across the country in a Travel Trailer and not having a destination in mind, I guess that would be a BIG Risk. But in eveyday life, then No.  (Kim:  Wow….that still amazes me.  I would say that is a risk taker too…)

18. Have you ever won anything? Yes What was it? I’ve won a few Cartridges and recently I just won a Cricut for my sons school.  (Kim:  you won the Easter Egg contest on my blog in March)

19. If you were able to skip a day of work or whatever you typically do during the day, how would you spend your day? I would love to go on Old Historical Home Tours with McCade, Him and I are sooooo much alike and he gets a big kick out of it too. The rest of the family thinks that it’s boring. What do they know!  (Kim:  That does sound like fun)

20. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? River Rafting, it was a Blast and I’d love to do it again!  (Kim:  It looks like a blast but I’m too chicken to try)

21. What makes you happy? Being with my family!  (Kim:  Nothing better)

22. What makes you sad? Not having my grand kids close by.  (Kim: That must be really hard. )

23. What makes you angry? The Government! (Enough Said!)  (Kim: Yep, I totally agree with you on this one)

24. Do you have any pets? Yes What are they? 5 Dogs, 2 turtles and 2 cows (hey what else do you do with 10 acres, but they stay with the neighbors cows (so they don’t get lonely) and we rotate them back and forth from their property to ours, we thought it was easier then mowing, LOL LOL LOL!!!) Oh I’m so funny!  (Kim:  Seriously or are you pulling a funny on me? )

MY CHILDHOOD

1. Describe yourself as a child… I was a pretty shy kid, A little chunky, my Mom is Italian so Bread and Pasta were a staple in our house and I love Bread and Pasta! Loved to be outside and at the beach. Loved to go anywhere on my Dad’s Harley with him. I loved to create things and used to hand sew clothes for my dolls. I didn’t get a sewing machine till I was in Junior High (Middle school is what it’s called now, LOL) I took a sewing class and fell in love with it and used to sew almost all my own clothes (except jeans). In High school I went right into Fashion Design and since I was so shy (and didn’t know how to say no) all the teacher’s would come to me to mend their clothes or fix zippers or hem (to this day I WILL NOT fix a zipper if it’s broke, LOL) (Kim:  Oops…just deny the large box I just Fed Ex’d out to you yesterday then…it’s full of jackets and pants that need the zippers repaired.)

2. Where did you grow up and what are your memories of this place? I grew up in Bellflower Calif. I loved the place, we would stay out all day until the street lights would come on so I guess it was a pretty safe place. If any of the kids did something wrong the neighbors would call your parents (or just scold you and threaten to call your parents) so everyone knew everyone. I always knew when my Dad came home because he Drove a Harley and I would “hear and feel” him come home and all the kids would run to my house so they could get a ride on his Harley. That was back in the 60-70’s and everyone thought he was a “Biker” because not many people had Harley’s back then (like now, almost everyone has them) but he was far from a biker, (he actually looked just like Ross Perot but covered in tattoos, he was in the Navy for 30 years.) (Kim:  Sounds like you had a great childhood full of some wonderful memories!)

3. What did you enjoy doing as a child? Reading, going to the beach and being outside. We used to go Camping alot and deep sea fishing too. (Kim:  Deep sea fishing must have been awesome!  I lived in Michigan surrounded by the great lakes.  We used to go minnow dipping, spearing and salmon fishing in the spring but I’d have to say deep sea fishing must be the cat’s meow!)

4. What was your favorite comic/cartoon character? I loved the Flintstones, and still do! (Kim:  I forgot about the Flinstones – I used to love it too)

5. What was your favorite outdoor activity as a child? I loved going to the Beach, we would take the bus or ride our bikes down there and spend all day. What is your favorite outdoor activity as an adult? Gardening, but not lately, it’s been WAY to hot here. I love to be near/in water and love being on a boat and/or Sea-doo. I also like to go hiking, there are so many great parks to explore. (Kim:  You do sound like a water baby – do you live close to any water now?)

6. Were you crafty as a child? Yes What did you enjoy doing the most? I loved to sew and make paper dolls and play with my doll house, I would make furniture to go in the house with all kinds of things. (Kim:  I did the same thing but it was always for my Barbies – loved those things)

7. What was your favorite toy? I had a doll called Thumbelina, she was only about 8-10” long (I still have it!) You pulled a string and the doll wiggled like a real baby. My best friend and I both had one and we also had a carrier, stroller, clothes, diapers and bag and all kinds of things to go with it and pretended to be moms for hours at a time every day. (Kim:  That’s so sweet!)

Alrighty, that’s it for today!  Make sure to check back tomorrow for Part II of Theresa’s interview and to see some more fun photos of herself and her family!

Thanks everyone!

xKim

P.S.  I just hopped over to see what’s new over at Binky Blossoms ,  Theresa’s blog, and she has the cutest layout using the Dinosaur Tracks Cricut cartridge that you  have to see!  Of course, she has tons of  other things too – cards and layouts that she has designed for BBTB2 …they’re  just too cute for words!

Thoughts to Ponder About Theresa Kelly aka Treefrog

2010
08.17

Ribbit-Ribbit… I was just sitting here chillin’ and thinkin’….and remembered that ::::Shhhhhlepppp:::(sorry just caught a Cricut- yum!)…anyway I was just sitting here chillin’ and thinkin’ about  Theresa Kelly aka TreeFrog from Binky Blossoms.

Funny, here we all thought TreeFrog was a crafty frog - how lame is that to think a frog can be crafty!  Uh….h-e-l-l-o?  What we’re we thinking?! The only frog I’ve ever met who can talk, sing AND act is Kermit.  Theresa sure is  one incredibly talented crafter and is the Master Olive guest designer this week over at OJS. Have you been over to her blog yet?  You really need to hop on over there after reading her interview below because she has some REALLY AWESOME stuff on there. She is on the BBTB2 Design Team and is always full of surprises! Did I ever tell you she’s one of my other favorite artists?  I just LOVE her style but that could be because she has this thing for frogs and toads…. (I think she might have the hots for me….I better get working on my croaks to swoon her…) :::::Shhhhhhlooooop:::::(sorry it’s that Cuttlebug…just can’t help myself when I see one).

I hear glue dots are as sticky as a frog’s tongue…

Hop along now…go check out Theresa’s interview questions & responses so you can learn more about her story.  I’m sure Kim will be posting it soon.

                                                                        Adios friends,

You’ve Been BOO’d! Halloween “Boo” Paint Tins

2010
08.17

Get your Boo on by spreading Halloween cheer to your neighborhood this holiday by decorating paint cans with a variety of ghoulish items! These paint cans were actually made for last year’s Halloween and were given to two special neighbors.  At the time, there were only a few  Halloween cuts available  on the Cricut cartridges so I decided to use up some of the stickers and precut diecuts I’ve collected over the years.  The stickers and diecuts used in this photo are from K&Co..   I attached two matching diecuts back-to-back to a thin dowel that was inked with black Tim Holtz Distress Ink.  I decorated the outside of the paint tin by using a variety of Halloween paper scraps, sticker labels with Halloween phrases, rhinestones and stickers from K&Co.  The BOO! Poem was copied from this website  http://www.minionsweb.com/bood.htm but if you don’t like either of these just Google “Boo Bags” to find all kinds of poems for this fun Halloween activity.  I printed  the poem and attached it to a piece of thin chipboard covered in a Halloween themed printed paper with a dowel attached to the back.  I again inked and distressed the edges, add a bow from scrap fabric and added a few stickers to the front of the poem.  To give the paint tin the fullness you see, I added shredded colored papers in orange, green, black and purple.  This paper was from my scrap bin that I ran through my paper shredder.  I then added all kinds of snacky goodies, a plastic Halloween skull cup from the local $ Dollar Store, slime, chips and candies.  A small piece of orange feather boa was glued to the top of the metal paint tin handle for the final bit of sha-bang.

This year, I’ll be making more  using the new Halloween cartridges and I’m so excited to get started!  We have so many options now which will make Halloween projects a much creepier crafting experience!

I hope you like them!

Sorry for the crummy photo – I didn’t realize the cans were turned a bit until now.  It’s the only photo I was able to take but I wanted to share them with you anyway.

Olive Halloween, do you?

xKim

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS FROG?

     -WANTED-

 CROAKING OR CREATING

REWARD: 10 Billion dollars in Monopoly $$$

Rumor has it this frog used to be a  crafty gal named Theresa Kelly who loved to hang out with the pretty things – diamonds and pearls, glitter and sequins. Years ago, Theresa woke up feeling kind of green and was horrified when she looked in her bathroom mirror that morning to find a treefrog looking back in her place. Witnesses are unsure as to why she turned into a frog but have speculated it happened after going on a hot date with Kermit. Since then Theresa, the human, has disappeared and has been replaced by this amphibian.  This frog  still has a crafty edge to it in a froggy way – it’s been  known to sport a few paper cuts over the years and has been heard croaking out a tune while stitching a mean and straight line on its sewing machine.  It has a deep desire to bedazzle everything it touches and croaks about anything that slightly resembles an insect, even CRICUTS!  A recent report states a warning: ” This frog has been seen hopping around as far away as California, Nevada  and Kentucky. Many years ago it was seen even  jumping around in Illinois. Eye witness reports have noted this frog lurking on several Internet sites -OJS (that’s here in case you didn’t know),  the Cricut forum, Cricut Circle forum and on one of my favorite blogs called “Binky Blossoms.”      This frog will “LOL” nonstop if your paths cross. You will require several bathroom breaks if left unsupervised from the constant “LOLing.” Local authorities have found this frog to be a threat to anything that chirps or remotely resembles a Cricut.  It only eats things that are still so shake and shimmy and keep your Cricut and other bugs running for the next several minutes as you read the post below. It fears the police and has been hopping and hiding from the law since a very young age. There is now a shortage of Cricuts across the world that has left everyone to only IMAGINE what the problem could be.  Victims of this frog have declared a state of emergency when it was spotted having close encounters with the Cuttlebug causing everything in sight to become impressively embossed. Researchers on this case are afraid these close encounters will cause many crafters throughout the world to envy this frog in epic proportions that would leave Kermit crooning “It’s not easy being green.”  If you are attending SWARMS, Circle Events, Crops or even crafting at home, make sure to keep your doors locked and your Cricut and Cuttlebug close by.  Be on the lookout and contact local authorities who have formed team TREEFROG if this frog is spotted in your neighborhood. If you find yourself eye to eye with this frog make sure to have a Pina Colada on hand and demand Theresa Kelly be released from the wraths of the Treefrog.

A legend, possibly folklore from the hills of Kentucky,  say no one really remembers what Theresa Kelly looked like before turning green.  People say it’s been so long since she resembled a human crafter.   We WILL solve the case of Theresa Kelly whether it takes the world’s supply of Monopoly $$ for additional clues and leads.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Theresa Kelly is This Week’s Master Olive Guest Designer!

Leads have been filtering in for the past hour or so on the whereabouts of Treefrog aka Theresa Kelly.  You may find the following information to be beneficial in solving the mystery of Theresa Kelly…

Do you recognize this gal?

(Incoming reports are trying to convince us that this is Theresa Kelly who has been roaming  the cyber world incognito as TreeFrog.  Could it be…?)

Hi Everyone, I’m Theresa Kelly, aka **Treefrog** on the Cricut Message Board and usually any other message board a username is needed. If you stick around to read the questions that Kim bombarded me with (just kidding, but boy oh boy it really made me think about myself and I’ve found out I’m kinda boring! LOL) Anyway, over the next few days,  you’ll find out how I got the name Treefrog – it’s a funny and kinda yucky story! LOL!

I just had a milestone Birthday last week, I turned 50 years old! Very uneventful and I like it that way. (Boy time sure flies when your getting old! LOL) I’ve been married to Ken for 15 years and we seem to ALWAYS forget our anniversary every year but we always remember the same exact day when we do! (kinda eerie huh) I met my husband in Las Vegas on Labor Day weekend. Iwas there with some gals from work and he had just gotten back from a deployment (he was in the Marines). I met  him and his buddies in an elevator and thought they we’re kinda cute! We all arranged to go out that night to a club and ever since I can’t seem to get rid of him, LOL!

Anyway back to me, (Hee Hee) I have three kids, Brian (29) Dawn (26) and McCade (9)! Yes, there is a BIG gap in age and all I can say is OOPS!  I also have three grandkids, Molly (7) Madison (5) and Ethan (1) and I miss them A LOT. They live in Wyoming and I’m trying REALLY hard to get them to move here or talk Ken into moving there, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon sooooo…..

This  brings me to how we wound up in Kentucky…

I was born in Illinois (Dad was in the Navy) then he got transferred to California and that’s where I grew up –  in Bellflower, Calif. (Los Angeles county).  I got married and moved to Orange County then bought a house in Temecula Calif. (Riverside County) and was married for 10 years before getting a divorce. I was divorced for a bit before I met Ken  but it was ironic to meet him in Vegas because he lived on base in San Diego (Camp Pendleton) and I lived in Temecula  so we were right next door to each other (meant to be?). We dated five years before we decided to get married. We went to Vegas all the time while we were dating and the company that Ken was working for was opening a new store so they asked him if he would be interested in running it.  We figured it was a sign to move there (since we had met there) so we did.  Before moving,  we went with some friends to check it out and while there we decided to get married, especially since everything seemed to always lead us back there! Our friends had teased us that they wanted to go to one of the wedding chapels  since there was one on practically every corner!  We didn’t even go to a chapel, we went to the Marriage Commissioner and got married! Ken wound up moving there and I moved there a month later because I had to make all the arrangements for the move and get the kids adjusted to leaving Calif.  We ended up buying a house and lived there for 12 years. We bought when everything was still reasonable to buy and it was away from the strip (25 minutes to the Spaghetti bowl for those of you who knows what that means, LOL)

In 2000, we were blessed with our son,  McCade,  after having a miscarriage in 1997. I was a nervous wreck being pregnant with him because of what happened before so the doctor did lots of tests and monitored me the whole time (boy I think that was more nerve wracking then when I was pregnant with my other two kids –  all the ultrasounds and tests they do nowadays made me a wreck!) There are 16 years between Dawn and McCade.  I was 40 years old with a brand new baby in a town that in, my opinion. is not a child friendly place even though we lived on the outskirts of Vegas away from the Strip. Shortly there after, everything started to go to Hell in a hand basket.  I worked for a company that did work for all the conventions that go on there and even though it is the convention capital of the world (my opinion) that even started to suffer and so did Ken’s business. I think things just built up too fast and too quickly in Vegas and people got greedy which caused everything  to go “south.”  I didn’t want McCade to go to school there because we had LOTS of problems with my daughter, Dawn, going to school in Vegas – that’s a whole different story.  We put our house on the market and got REALLY lucky, it was only on the market two weeks before it sold! We did pretty good on the sale of our house, it closed in a month (right in the middle of all the sub-prime market crashes!) … We bought a Travel Trailer, loaded up a ABF moving trailer and left Vegas, never looking back! We had no idea where we were going or where we would wind up but we knew we couldn’t stay in Vegas any longer. And seeing and hearing everything that is going on there I know we made the right decision! Our house value that we sold our house for isn’t even half the value of what we sold it for now but it’s still more than what we paid but not what the new people paid. I can see why people walk away from their homes these days, VERY VERY Sad! (Boy I could go on and on, on the whole recession but I would put you all to sleep!)

We packed up, headed out and just camped our way across country. We stopped in Ohio for about a week to visit family (that’s where Ken is from, Elyria to be exact) and almost wound up staying there but Ken didn’t want McCade to go to school there either so we came down to Kentucky to visit my Brother and his wife and Ken fell in love with it – s0 here we are! McCade and I had visited KY in 2006 when my brother got married and thought it was beautiful. We found some land (10 acres) that was a great price and decided to build a house! My Brother is a builder so he took on the task and Ken and I became home builders! (How many people can say they built their own home!) Yes,  we built out own home! It’s not big or fancy but I’m not a big and fancy girl (and there’s less to keep clean, been there done that! I’d rather have a bit smaller home to clean and have more time to craft! LOL) McCade  now goes to a small country school, only 20-22 kids in his classes verses 35+ kids in his Kindergarten class in Vegas and that was a AM & PM class so it was only going to get worse in the upper grades.  When we moved here the school wanted McCade to take a speech class because they said he had a speech problem, I laughed and said “No you guys have a accent and he just doesn’t sound like you do because he doesn’t have that hillbilly accent!”  They ended up  agreeing with me after a few other tests he took. McCade is a  pretty bright kid  even though he missed half of kindergarten! LOL  He loves his school, and so do I. I love to volunteer and help every year with the yearbook – they always ask me because they love all the cute Cricut cuts I use! They will be getting their own Cricut this year so I hope they’ll still need me! LOL!   I entered his school for a free Cricut and won so they asked me to give a little class on how to use it. LOL! It should be fun since I love mine so much!

Basically, that’s how we wound up here in Kentucky from the Wild and Wonderful place called Las Vegas – it’s like night and day! LOL!  Sometimes I miss it but I miss the OLD Vegas, not what Vegas has turned into. There are two totally different worlds to Vegas, the Strip and the Real World of actual people living there - not everyone works and lives in a Casino! LOL I still miss California though but that’s a whole other story of why I won’t ever go back there but to visit  my oldest Son Brian who lives there. I’m hoping I’ll get my chance to visit (if I can’t convince him to move here first, LOL)

I hope I didn’t put you all to sleep!  I live a pretty boring life out here in the country on our little farm. We only have a Walmart and if I want or need to get craft supplies Ken has to take me to the city which is at least 2 hours away to the closest Hobby Lobby. We try to go at least once a month to Lexington or we go down to Tennessee (love it there also).  Ken is really good about taking me to all my favorite craft stores (he even uses coupons for me so I can stock up on supplies, isn’t he the best!) I’ve learned to do a lot of online shopping also but I still like to get out every once in awhile!

Thank you Kim so much for tolerating me and my babbling, I really do think were sister’s somehow because we both have a tendency to go on and on and on and ones,  (KIM SAYS: “WHAT?!  ME?! !:::looking around dubiously::::  Yep, I’m known to do that aren’t I?!  (insert :: blushing:: here) You all must like it because you keep coming back for more! LOL!”) and…………………….. You all get the picture, we both love to talk! (KIM:  Dang!  Busted again!  That’s my husband’s fault he’s a talker and I never used to be.  Now I never stop!) LOL! Love you girl, you really are a sweetie and Thanks for always including McCade in ANY e-mail you send me, he really gets a kick out of it!  If I haven’t driven you all crazy,  hopefully I’ll see you all tomorrow. Bye for now!

Kim:  Oh lordy be this was a wild goose chase trying to uncover the Treefrog mystery!  By George, I think we got it! *wink* Check in tomorrow to read Treefrog…er…ahem….Theresa Kelly’s interview!  If you’re a regular visitor and have been following along with the guest designers you know the routine!  If not, just make sure to check back each day this week for more entertaining and exciting info about Theresa Kelly’s story.  *grin* Hope you have a craftspetcular day!  I know I will be – I have to somehow get the rest of my  craft room cleaned up to design 50 Abby Cadabby Birthday invites for a customer.  Ei-yi-yi!

Breaking News – Miracles DO Happen!

2010
08.10

There IS a bottom to this mess I claim to be my craft room!  I just found a 4″x4″ area on my desk with NOTHING covering it!  Halliejua!!!

I’ll post a photo ……once I find my camera! ROFL!

It’s Quiet Around Here….But I’m NOT Sleeping (I wish I was)!

2010
08.09

I’m still cleaning house (aka, my craft room) - this is a MAJOR job!  (insert “Ugh!” here) If I were brave enough I’d post photos of the disaster zone but I am a coward because you would all probably bail ship (aka never return to OJS) and take off running like you just saw a sequined covered ghost….that’s about as descriptive as I will get in describing this mess but when it’s all done I will post a photo! :-)  We just finished painting yesterday so now the fun part begins – sorting, organizing and  setting up my counters and shelves. It’s not going to be exactly what I want because we may be moving within the year. (insert groan here) Yep, you read that right. I’m so sad because we bought our house just a year ago but my husband started a new job today that requires a 200 mile commute (roundtrip M-F).  If he decides that he likes this job, we may be moving to WI within the year, otherwise it will be 52,000 miles a year my husband will be commuting.   (insert groan here). He claims he’s okay with the driving but I’m not – that’s insane to even consider!  We’ve lived in IL now for a total of five years and have really enjoyed the area.  We have no family here but we’ve made such great friends that we consider many to be family.  It’s going to be really hard to leave if we decide this is the right thing for us to do.  In some ways I’m really sad to have to move but in another way I’m excited because the cost of living will be  so much lower.  The Chicagoland area still has us reeling in sticker shock.  If we move to WI we’ll be able to afford a bigger house with some acreage so I can have a big ol’ craft studio/barn all to myself. (This is my way of making a negative into a positive!). What “mad crafter” wouldn’t want that?!

So you’re probably wondering why I am even painting my “craft room” if we’re moving?  I’m trying to figure this out too!  Probably because I’m tired of feeling disorganized and the room needed to be painted anyway. It’s been a whole year that all of my craft stuff has been stored throughout the house – I can’t find anything and I don’t even know what I have anymore.  It has really stressed me out and has slowed down my creative process. I’m tired of having these “messes” so I’ve vowed to get myself organized regardless if we’re moving or not before my kids start school.  If anything, it keeps my mind occupied and makes me feel like I’ve accomplished a huge task (which it is a GINORMOUS task to say the least!). Plus, part of the deal is that IF we move within a year the company my husband is working for will cover all moving expenses – including the packing and unpacking so being organized will make  the whole packing process a much happier memory for all of us. :-)

During this process,  I have found boatloads of projects from the past year or so that have never been posted on here because (ahem….I couldn’t find any of this stuff since we moved here a year ago) and because they were for a book deal gone bad that ended up crumbling so I have boxes and boxes of stuff that I’ve just been sitting on.  The bad thing is that I can’t find the instructions for most of these projects.  I have them BUT can’t find them anywhere.  If and when I find them I will go back through and add the instructions at a later date – if anyone is interested in anything I post that doesn’t have instructions, please shoot me an email and I will do my best to  write them out for you.

In regards to the disappearing guest designers, I purposely didn’t have one scheduled for the week of CHA because I wanted to hog the week but I still have more stuff to post – is it too late for more CHA photos?    Last week was an open week with no one scheduled and this week’s designer literally twisted my arm and jumped on me begging for an extra week so what’s a girl to do? (Insert *wink* and *smile* here) So the next Master Olive Guest Designer is that crazy TreeFrog from Binky Blossoms.  Her real name is Theresa Kelly and she is active on the Cricut forum using her Treefrog alias.  She’s the very first person to win any contest on my blog  wayyyyyy back in March and we just hit it off – love that gal!  She finds the things I write to be REALLY FUNNY (even the things that aren’t meant to be funny…) so how can I NOT like her?  She sends me emails that have more LOL’s in them than I think are legally allowed but I have to say I do LOL throughout her emails a lot!  So, starting next week as long as Treefrog doesn’t jump all over me begging for an extra week, we will have a guest designer scheduled. :-)   I do have the last two weeks of August open if anyone wants to be a guest designer for the week – please let me know ASAP if interested so I can send you everything you need.

Starting now, I am accepting tutorial submissions on ANYTHING considered creative!  This will be the next part of OJS I will start adding in September.  I’ve collected a few from some interested designers but I’d like tons more.  Please note that these tutorials do not have to to use the Cricut, they most certainly can but it’s not mandatory.  Anything goes for this, even tutorials on how to organize your home or craft room, photography, cooking, gardening, kid’s projects, etc!  In exchange, if you’re a blogger, you become an automatic featured designer with a link to your URL, you get a groovy cool blog button stating you’re a featured designer/artist AND get your name and blog listed in the newsletter I send out to Memory Miser customers.  How awesome is that?

Okay, enough babbling.  It’s time for a cup of java and a pair of rubber gloves.  I MUST tackle the craft room landfill so we can walk through our house without getting glue dots stuck to the bottoms of our feet and without bumping into piles of  paper scraps that  go flying everytime someone walks by….I am woman hear me roar!  I CAN do this… (ahem….clear your throat here)

My mantra for today is, “Olive a clean and organized craft room, don’t you?”

xKim
