Part II of Vicki Purdham’s Interview…Getting to Know Her Creative Side!

2010
07.08

Calling all Vicki Purdham fans!  Hurry back because  it’s time for Part II of Vicki’s Interview!  Today we’re going to find out about Vicki’s creative side  and read her responses to those crazy random questions I ask all of our guest designers!  Don’t forget that tomorrow is when I will be posting the project and tutorial Vicki is sharing with us  –  I know what it is and it’s A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!!! I sound like I’m bragging because I know and you don’t.  Na-Na-Na!  LOL!  Just joking! :-)   It is REALLY cute though and I am quite certain that you’ll love it!

Let’s get this interview started, shall we?!

My Creative Side…

  1. 1.   Do you consider yourself to be an amateur, novice, or seasoned/expert crafter? I think I am a novice because I am sure there is still tons and tons that I could learn. (Kim:  That’s a good way to look at it because we can always learn something new)
  2. 2.   If you could take a class with any crafty celebrity who would it be and why? Martha Stewart, because I would show her that she isn’t the only one that creates crafty things….. (Kim:  If you read Carrie Mason’s (a.k.a. Green Bean) interview you’ll  notice my shout out to Martha.  I’m hoping her people find “my people”….err….olives…yeah that’s it…and we can hook up for a tv gig or something.  I’ll hook you up when that big day comes, okay?)
  3. 3.   What are your favorite crafts to dabble in and why? Cards, cards and more cards….and the occasional Christmas ornament (Kim:  Really?  I had no idea *grin*)
  4. 4.   Which crafts have you explored but don’t really care for? Crocheting, I know how but as I get older I just really don’t care for it.  That or needlepoint.  (Kim:  I have tried to learn to crochet but it’s that darn left handed thing that screws things up.  I used to be able to crochet chains with my fingers….I used to go through skeins of yarn making chains…The only reason I want to learn is so I can say I know how but the whole crochet/needlepoint/knitting thing just doesn’t float my boat…BUT that could change by tomorrow)
  5. 5.   What craft have you NOT tried yet but would like to in the near future? I would love to be able to paint.  I can draw pretty good but I would love the paint…I am talking Bob Ross painting too.  That would be awesome…. (Kim: Painting is fun, except when it comes to walls and ceilings.  I dread it because everytime I paint we move.  I painted almost our whole house in very fun vibrant colors over the past year.  Now my husband is interviewing for jobs in another state.  What gives?  I’ve decided if we move again the next house is staying white which will probably cause me to be put away in a mental institution – I’ve gotta have my color)
  6. 6.   If you knew you were going to be stranded on a deserted island but could take any two craft supplies with you, what would you choose and why? The only craft I can think of that only uses two supplies would be crocheting, so I guess it would be a needle and crochet thread.  If I were standed on a deserted island I guess I would learn to love to crochet. (Kim:  Think of all the beautiful clothes you could whip up, you could even crochet branches and grasses to make a hut)
  7. 7.   The number one craft supply you can never be without other than adhesive! Paper, I love pretty paper. (Kim:  I totally agree)
  8. 8.   What is your preferred adhesive? My ATG gun (Kim:  You’re going to laugh at me but I have an ATG gun that is still in the package that I bought last fall and still haven’t used it – I have no idea why I haven’t used it either.)
  9. 9.   Do you scrapbook?  Why do you scrapbook and what is your favorite thing to scrap? I do scrapbook some.  My favorite things to scrapbook would be my family.  I love looking back at old pictures of my kids.  That makes my heart smile. (Kim:  I’d love to see some of your scrapbook layouts.)
  10. Do you have a favorite  paper line and company? What is it? I love all paper but I really love the prints on the My Minds Eye papers.  (Kim:  So otherwise you’re not partial to a particular brand)
  11. Are you a card maker?  Yes, that is my absolute love is card making (Kim:  Really?  I had no idea you enjoyed making cards! *grin*)
  12. Have you ever sold anything you’ve made? I have sold tons of craft stuff over the years.  (Kim:  That’s awesome!)
  13. What/Who inspires you? (I know, I know it’s me!) I would have to say Jeannie Phillips.  Not only is she a great inspiration but she is also a great friend.  (Kim:  I was hoping Jeannie was going to pop up in your responses somewhere!  Jeannie is an inspiration to so many card makers but I think you’re pretty inspirational too)
  14. If you won a $5,000 in a contest to be used at any ONE craft store.  Which one would it be and what would you buy? Hobby Lobby because I love their paper selections….. (Kim:  I use a lot of Paper Studio papers in my projects and the kits I sell.)
  15. What do you do when the mojo is no where to be found? Cry…. (Kim:  Maybe I should try that.  I go shopping for MORE paper and it gets my creative mind going once again then I start to panic when I start feeling overwhelmed that I own more paper than a craft store)
  16. What craft/technique are you planning to try in the near future? I really want to try quilling (Kim:  I’ve tried a few quilling techniques and find it to be a lot of fun)
  17. If you had to place all of your craft supplies in one box what size would you need? There really isn’t a big enough box. (Kim:  Yeah, about that.  Don’t think you’re the only one with that problem. )
  18. Is there a particular color you are drawn to when crafting? I really like the browns and burgundy’s (Kim:  That’s interesting.  Those are the last colors I would reach for.  I made a card this evening that I posted with instructions and it “forced” me to use a dark brown instead of black.  I think it turned out cute but it just felt odd!  I never use browns other than for an occasional tree trunk. *wink*)
  19. What one thing needs to be done to pretty much every single thing you make before it looks like it’s finished? Pop dot it.  I just can’t make a flat card for anything.  (Kim:  I am a big pop dot person myself so I have to agree with you on this one)
  20. How did you come up with your blog name and Cricut board screen name? My last night is Purdham so I took Purdy from Purdham and came up with One Purdy Card. (Kim:  I love the name of your blog!  It’s so cleverly cute)
  21. I f you had a choice between making a card, scrapbook page layout or altered art which would you choose and why? Making a card because that is my absolute favorite thing to craft.  (Kim:  Really?  I had no idea you liked making cards *wink*)
  22. Are you on any design teams? I was on the Gypsy Design team but now that it is not around anymore I need a new design team to be one.  They really keep my creative juices going.  (Kim:  I’ll be starting a design team early fall.  Let me know if you’re interested in being an olive *smile*)
  23. What is your favorite thing about blogging? I love seeing all the great creations that people come up with and I love having a place to put all of mine.  (Kim: I spend too much time blog hopping but the things/people I find just blows me away!  That’s why I started doing this guest designer appearance for all of you so I can help share some of the hidden gems out there)
  24. How many hours a day/week do you typically find yourself crafting? I try to craft 3 days a week if work permits.  (Kim:  That’s great, especially for working full time and having such a busy schedule with all of your kiddos)
  25. Are you a morning, night or all day crafter? I am a night crafter for sure.  If I didn’t work during the day I would be an all day crafter.  (Kim:  I’m an all day into the night crafter -when I can be which isn’t often!  I typically get busy in the late afternoon into the evening.)
  26. If you find an incredible piece of scrapbook  paper that is the perfect color, pattern, etc…do you find that you use it right away or hold on tight because it’s too pretty to use? Oh I save it because I think it is just too pretty and I have to think of the perfect thing to use it with. (Kim:  Tisk-tisk!  You need to start using all of those pretties! )
  27. Are you a paper hoarder?  You should see my craft room.  Hi, my name is Vicki and I am a paper addict.  (Kim:  Hi my name is Kim and I’m your paper hoarding soul sister)
  28. Do you spend more time crafting/scrapping or shopping? both (Kim:  Oh yeah!  Finally a shopper! )
  29. What is your favorite thing to create? I love cards…. (Kim:  Really?  I had no idea you loved to make cards! *wink*)
  30. Do you have a separate craft room/space in your house?  What do you like about it the most?  What do you dislike? I do have a separate craft room I just wish it was bigger…lots bigger….. (Kim:  Same here.  If only I could get the rest of my family to use just one room in the house I’d have plenty of space)
  31. If I were to walk into your craft room right this very moment what would I notice first?  All of the paper. I swear I have more paper than Michaels…..I really do….. (Kim:  I’d like to challenge you on that comment.  I bet I have enough for 2-3 stores.  Winner receives..?)
  32. Do you have a favorite craft magazine? I don’t really look at craft magazines. (Kim:  You probably don’t have time!)
  33. Describe yourself as a crafter. What do you think about yourself and do you think people perceive you in the same way? I think I am a pretty creative crafter.  I think I can do most any craft out there and if there is one that I don’t know how to do then I am always anxious to learn.  I absolutely love to craft.  That is my sanity…..I hope everyone else thinks I am creative…. (Kim:  It’s what keeps me INsane too…well….it does because I have too much stuff and I start to fret over my hemmoraging craft supplies.  BUT, when the mojo is crankin’ there’s nothin better than a good ol’ craft session.  Some people need drugs to be happy – I just need my craft supplies and I can call it good.)
  34. Are you a DS or Gyspy user?  How often do you use it/them?  What do you use these programs for? Oh I am absolutely a Gypsy user, I can’t imagine making a card now without my Gypsy.  I really don’t know what I would do without it. (Kim:  Really?  You like to make cards?  I had no idea.  AND you use your Gypsy too design  your cards…well fancy that *wink*)
  35. What is your favorite shape and font Cricut cartridges? My favorite shape cart is the Paper Doll Dress up because of the extras and my fav font cart is Lyrical Letters. I just think it has the prettiest letters.  (Kim:  You’re the first designer to actually mention actual cartridges -that’s cool!)
  36. How many cartridges do you own? 122….I was pretty close to having all of the carts that they make until they had to come out with these cricut lites….what were they thinking….now I have tons more to buy….. (Kim:  Heaven’s to Betsy I need to catch up!  I think I’m over 100 but really have no clue. I guess I’ll find out when I load all my cartridges on my new Gypsy.  I have one.  I finally have one.  I still can’t believe I have a Gypsy)
  37.  How often do you use your Cricut each week?  3-4 days a week. (Kim:  “Chirp-chirp”)
  38.  What is your favorite medium to use when crafting? Pop dots and ink (Kim:  Yeah?  I’d have to say you and Jeannie do have a thing for pop dots…AND ink *grin*)
  39.  If you were asked to enable every crafter reading this to buy just one craft tool/machine or supply that you think everyone should own… what would it be and why? ATG gun, I can’t live without it. (Kim:  Alright!  I’ll get mine out tomorrow and start using it.  You’re making me feel guilty)
  40.  Black or white? Black (Kim:  ditto)
  41.  Bling or grunge? Bling (Kim:  Blingy grunge)
  42.  What’s your favorite food item and drink to have beside you when crafting? I don’t really eat when I am crafting but I always have a bottle of water with me. (Kim:  Ditto.  Crafting actually is great when you’re trying to lose weight.  I get so wrapped up in what I’m doing I forget to eat.  Sure wish I could find time to craft all day long….sigh…)

Random Thoughts…

  1.  Are you good at making people smile? What do you do to make it happen? I think so, I just smile at them first and usually they will smile back.  (Kim:  I’ve been smiling since the day we started emailing back and forth.  You’re so much fun to talk to and this week has been super de dooper fun!  Yes, just call me Barney for just writing that)
  2.  If given the option to change professions what would you choose? Professional craft maker (Kim:  Amen!)
  3.  What place in the U.S. would you .like to visit? Grand Canyon (Kim:  Gorgeous place and would love to go back)
  4.  What place outside of the U.S. would you like to visit? Switzerland or Australia (Kim:  Ooohhh!  Can I come along?  I’d love to visit both places too)
  5.  Coke or Pepsi?  Diet or regular? Neither, I am purely a water or sweet tea gal….and oh yeah, the occasional wine…. (Kim:  H2O here too.  I love iced tea but only unsweetened)
  6.  Do you prefer country or city life? A mix of both and what I mean by that is I like to live in a small city where people act like they live in the country (Kim:  I guess that’s better than having the opposite of a small town with BIG city attitude.  That would stink)
  7.  What’s your favorite word? Jeannie would say fretted….lol…not sure if I have a favorite word…… (Kim:  Fretted?  That’s cute.  So do you?  Do you fret a lot?)
  8.  If I were to look inside your refrigerator what would I find? Bottled water and left overs….. (Kim: That’s not so bad)
  9.  How do you manage stress in your life? You mean to tell me there is a way to handle this stuff….do tell…… (Kim: Well shucks Vicki, I was hoping you could enlighten me!)
  10.  You’re granted THREE WISHES…what would your wishes be? Health for my family, health for myself and peace in my life… (Kim:  Great wishes)
  11.  If you were to wake up as a super hero, what super power would you have? The power of ultimate energy (Kim:  Now that is one clever answer.  I wish I had unlimited energy)
  12.  Would you rather have a chef prepare healthy, yummy foods for you and your family for each meal 7x a week or a housekeeper who follows behind you during your crafting sessions and cleans up all messes AND puts everything away in an orderly fashion? Oh that is really easy, a personal chef, I am a pretty clean housekeeper, I think everything has its place.  I just wish my husband knew that. (Kim:  Yeah…about that. )
  13. Favorite dessert…oh that is easy….cheesecake or brownies or chocolate chip cookies or cake or dove chocolate….ok maybe that isn’t so easy…… (Kim:  Mmmmm!  You’re making me hungry.  I better go get crafting so I don’t eat)
  14. Do you collect anything?  What is it? Apparently paper (Kim:  You make it sound like you’re a bit surprised. At least you learned something new about yourself from answering these questions *wink*)

Whew!  That was A LOT of questions!  I always ask for the designers to answer a minimum number of questions for each section but pretty much everyone answers above and beyond the minimum number – I guess that would mean they’re having  fun, right? *smile*  Oh!  By the way, I noticed Vicki forgot to mention something kind of important in the creative section.  She REALLY loves to make cards.  *wink*

Vicki dear, you are one very witty gal and it has been a total pleasure interviewing you and getting to know “your story.”  I think I have a perma grin this week because I’m still sitting here smiling at some of your silly comments!

Make sure to jet on over to “One Purdy Card” and become a follower – please?  for me!  Let’s surprise her with a houseful of new guests the next time  she checks out her blog! :-)

Until tomorrow….

Olive my crafty friends, don’t you?

x Kim
