Independence Day Banner -Perfect for a 4th of July Cookout!

4th of July Banner

An Olive Juice Studio original designed exclusively for Memory Miser customers!

Are you hosting a picnic or BBQ on July 4th?  Snazz up your party décor with a super simple and quick banner using  the new  Seasonal – “Independence Day” Cricut cartridge. 

Ingredients:

Independence Day Seasonal Cricut cartridge

Cricut (any size)

3 (or more depending on the size banner you are seeking) 12×12 sheets Paper Studio Newsprint Patterned Paper

3 (or more)12×12 sheets Paper Studio Red and White Polka Dot Patterned Paper                                                                                      

1 (or more)12 x12 Navy Blue Bazzil Paper

Jute or Ribbon

AdhesiveSpray Adhesive

Clear fine Glitter

Red ribbon – thin

Red Netting or Tulle

Tim Holtz Antique Paper and Vintage Photo Distress Inks

Silver or White Stickles/glitter glue

Silver Grommets

Crop-a-dile

 Scissors

Directions: 

1.      Insert the Independence Day Seasonal Cricut cartridge into your machine.  Using the newsprint patterned paper for the base, cut nine or more flags/pennants.  By following the keypad overlay, you will find  the base cut by counting down three rows and across four.  Look for the upside down black triangle.  Set your machine to 4 ¾”.  Adjust your speed to “high/max,” set the blade depth and pressure according to the paper weight.  If using the same paper as in the photo, set your blade depth to 4 and the blade pressure to medium.  Cut out as many pennants to make the banner any length you are seeking.

2.      Place the red and white polka dot paper on the mat then select the second layer which is four rows down and four across on the keypad overlay.  Cut enough for each pennant cut out of the newsprint paper.

3.      Using the navy blue paper count five rows down and four across.  Cut out one for each pennant.

4.      Ink all pieces using the Antique PaperDistress Ink for the base.  Lightly drag the ink pad across the edges and center of the papers to give it a more vintage appeal.  Next, using the Vintage Photo Distress Ink lightly ink only the edges of all the pieces.

5.      Assemble the pennants by adhering all pieces together. 

6.      In a well ventilated area (preferably outdoors) spray each pennant one at a time with spray adhesive then dust with a coating of clear fine glitter and tap off any excess.  Do this to each pennant.  Add Stickles/glitter glue to  all of the stars.  Let dry before continuing.

7.      Using your Crop-a-dile, punch a hole into each upper corner of the pennant and slip a grommet into each hole – set it with the Crop-a-dile.

8.      Cut strips of jute/twine to desired length between each banner pennant.  Slip one end through the grommet on the ;pennant and square knot the string to keep it from slipping through.  Repeat by connecting the pennants together using the jute.

9.      Cut strips of red ribbon and red netting/tulle into small strips and randomly tie in between each pennant.

10.  Add any extra details you desire and place in an area where everyone can see your new creation!

Hi Everyone!   It’s hard to believe but it’s  Wednesday! As the old saying goes,” Time sure flies when you’re having fun!” I hoped everyone enjoyed reading Elizabeth’s biography that she shared with us yesterday.  Isn’t she just an amazing lady?   I hope you were able to visit her blog and looked through some of her incredible projects and tutorials – if you haven’t yet it’s not too late!  I promise you will be happy you listened to me! :-)

On that note…it’s time for all of you creative souls to set your ATG Guns aside and let your Cricuts idle in non-chirping mode for a few minutes because it’s time for Part I of Elizabeth Currie-Matsko’s Interview…

 

About Me…

1.   Your full name Elizabeth Currie-Matsko

2.   Are you married?  Yes for 11 years to my husband James. (Kim:  Way to go!)

3.   Do you have children?  How many and how old? I have 3 boys 9, 3, and1 (WOW…and to think you can still find time to craft, maintain a blog, work, homeschool – now that’s a full plate!)

4.   Do you work?  What is your job? I am a Makeup Artist for a national brand.  I do mostly Fashion Shows and Photo Shoots, but will do occasional beauty or wedding makeup for clients.  My job allows a lot of flexibility so I also stay at home with the kids and homeschool. (Kim:  That is so cool!  I actually considered this way back when but it’s a pretty tough field to get into…it’s one of those jobs where you almost have to know someone, have connections to land your first few gigs.  I bet you have a blast…and this explains why your makeup is PERFECT in your photos! *smile*)

5.   What five adjectives would you use to describe who you are as a person? Competitive, Driven, Social, Articulate,  Impatient (Kim:  These traits are probably the reason why you are able to do all that you do and not lose your sanity! *wink*)

6.   If I were to ask your significant other, friend or family member who knows you very well to describe you as a person  what five adjectives do you think they would choose? Bossy, Domineering, Giving, Academic, Friendly (Kim:  Oh come now…bossy…domineering?  They must be messing with you to say something like that. *grin*  Even if it’s true being bossy and domineering can sometimes be a good thing -  *wink*)

7.   Favorite genre of music…. I love all types of music except for blues or jazz.  I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s. I will always love that pop music from Madonna and Michael Jackson but I also love Nirvana and Pearl Jam. In today’s music I love Lady Gaga.  She has a style all her own and pushes the boundaries of style and creativity. (Kim:  I LOVE blues and jazz, but also listen to pretty much everything else.  You’re absolutely right about Lady Gaga – she’s very talented and has definitely made herself stand out from the rest. I need some of those pointed cones she wears for shoulder pads..)

8.   List your pet peeves…  Unpredictable Schedules, Lying, Tardiness, Clutter (Kim:  “Unpredictable Schedules”…. I guess this would explain why you were after me to lock in a date!  *wink* “Lying”…nothing worse than a liar….”Tardiness”….very annoying….”Clutter”….I’d be your biggest pet peeve right now – my studio looks like a landfill…STILL.. *sigh*…one of these days I might find time to get it back into shape…)

9.   What one thing in your life do you wish you could do over again? I would have finished my Bachelors Degree. (Kim:  You’re young…it’s never too late to go back to school….why have regrets when you can still make it happen?)

10.  What do you find yourself doing that you said you would never ever do? Going out in public without hair and makeup done.  After my third child, I just find myself not seeing this as a priority anymore. (Kim:  I’m guilty of that.  My husband laughs when he thinks back to the days BC {before children}…it would literally take me a good two hours or more to get ready to go somewhere mundane.  Today, I can be showered, dressed with makeup and hair done in less than 25 minutes – awesome!  More time to craft…)

11.   Name three things you are completely and utterly proud of.  My Boys- They have overcome so much with their disability. I am so proud of them.  My Blog- I have done all the work by myself on it.  I have taught myself HTML and made my own blinkie.  I know it may not sound like much but for someone who is not very computer savvy, this was huge! My Marriage- It has taken huge sacrifices to make it work, especially being married so young. I am so proud to call James my husband. (Kim: I think  you have every reason to mention these three “things” to be what you are proud of – they’re all some pretty major accomplishments!  Kudos to a job well done!  I commend you for your patience and for being such a wonderful mom and your boys are very lucky to have you as their mom.  It sounds like you have  a great marriage too. *smile* You’re absolutely right about having to make sacrafices to make a marriage work - a great marriage requires constant attention on both sides.  The blog thing – I absolutely get what you mean – I’ve learned so much over the past few months too…especially this past month…ugh!)

12.   Do you consider yourself to be a risk taker? Not at all.  I am  a “scheduled by the book kind of person.”  I won’t even risk cutting my pretty papers without a test cut first. (Kim:  Sometimes that’s considered being smart.  Think of all the “pretty papers” you’ve saved)

13.   What is your idea of fun?  If you were able to skip a day of work  or whatever you typically do during the day, how would you spend your day? I would probably go shopping and get my nails done.  I don’t have time anymore for that stuff so if I had the chance you bet I would take it! (Kim:  It does sound heavenly doesn’t it?  Why don’t all of us moms make more time for ourselves?)

14.  What makes you happy? Spending time with family and making new friends. (Kim:  Nothing better than that….well, and crafting! *grin*)

15.  What makes you sad? Having to say goodbye to friends or family (Kim: This is a hard thing to do, especially when those goodbyes are long term or forever.)

16.  What makes you angry? Broken Promises or Lies (Kim:  I would have to agree with you on this one,)

17.  Are you always early or terminally late? On time.  I hate being late but with 3 kids it is hard to always be on time. (Kim:  Being terminally late stinks and causes me to freak.  I strive for the “on time” thing too – not always successful but never terminally late)

18.  Do you have any pets?  What are they? Oh boy do we have pets! We have a Miniature American Eskimo Dog, Sheltie, 3 Pomeranians, 9 Hermit Crabs (at last count), 1 Ragdoll Cat (I need the cat cartridge soon ProvoCraft!). (Kim:  I think you forgot to mention  a partridge in a pear tree. I’ve never heard of a Ragdoll cat and will have to go Google it to see what it looks like…)

19.  On a scale from 1 to 5 how organized are you?  1 Being not at all to 5 being super organized. 5 in my own space; 3 in the shared space of the house.  I don’t expect everyone to be like me or life would be boring. (Kim:  Really?  A 5?!  Wow…I’m even more impressed)

My Childhood Memories…

1.   Describe yourself as a child… COMPETITIVE! I have always been very competitive and driven.  I am the oldest of 4 so maybe that has something to do with it.  I was a serious child and was very goal oriented.  I always wanted to be a lawyer.  I loved school and really found I had strengths that have served me well over the years.  But my creative side has always seemed to take dominance.  I have always had a creative side that must be nurtured. (Kim:  I hear you on the “creative thing” it seems to always take control of what I do in my life too.  What’s with that?)

2.   Where did you grow up and what are your memories of this place? My dad was in the Air Force so we moved a lot.   We lived in Washington, Texas, California, Nebraska, and Kansas.  I mostly grew up near Omaha, Nebraska but spent every summer back in California in the high desert area with my grandparents. (Kim: I bet all of that moving  includes a lot of interesting stories, but being able to connect your summers to the high desert area in California with your grandparents must make for some really great memories.)

3.   What did you enjoy doing as a child? I loved swimming, golf, Barbies, and coloring.  (Kim:  I was a Barbie nut too….and coloring -well, anything considered crafty.  I was always making something out of nothing or baking…)

4.   What was your favorite outdoor activity as a child?  What is your favorite outdoor activity as an adult? My favorite outdoor activity was and always has been golf. To me it is a tranquil sport that requires precision and dedication. I love as an adult getting to teach my boys the game.  It really brings us all together. (Kim:  I’ve always wanted to learn how to play golf  and one of these days I’m going to take lessons.  I did play miniature golf with my kids today and da mama won – big time. *grin*)

5.   Were you crafty as a child?  What did you enjoy doing the most?  I was crafty as a child.  I have always enjoyed creative writing.  I took summer classes and camps for writing through out elementary school and into high school and college.  (Kim:  I LOVE creative writing and have been writing since I was a child.  I still have notebooks full of stories and poems that I wrote and they’re so much fun to read now as an adult.  I also took several creative writing classes in college and have been looking to take another but have very little free time available)

6.   What was your favorite toy? My favorite toys were my Barbies.  I loved getting to do their hair and pretend makeup.  I love having fashion shows for them.  I always wanted the Barbie Dream house! (Kim: Such fond Barbie memories….and to think we both have all boys! I still have all of my Barbies.  I kept them to give to my “daughter” but if  my boys knew I had them still they would probably strap them to their skateboards and send them sailing down the driveway into a moving car…so they’re my little secret…a little part of me I continue to hold on to. *smile*)

See what I mean?  She’s an amazing lady with a heart of gold, a full plate and can still crank out amazing crafts!  

I don’t know about all of you, but I’ve been a follower of  ”217 Creations”, Elizabeth’s blog, for quite some time.  The first several times I spent a LONG time trying to figure out the story behind “217 Creations.”  I went through and counted all of her projects expecting there to be 217 “creations” or possibly 217 categories..but there’ wasn’t.  So then I assumed she was “striving” for 217 creations but then that would be silly because if she went over 217 would she change the name of her blog?  Well, you don’t want to miss out on Part II of Elizabeth’s Interview that will be posted tomorrow because she tells the secret behind the name of her blog – I  read it…then I read it again….. (Oh, I want to tell you so bad but I don’t want to spoil the story!) That’s when it all clicked.  Hmmm…believe it or not it’s pretty darn clever…but I bet you won’t believe where the name came from – okay, enough.  My lips are sealed…just check back tomorrow! LOL!

“3…2…1…ACTION!”  Hi Everyone!  Today is Tuesday, which means it’s time for me to introduce to you this week’s Master Olive Guest Designer!  If you visit the Cricut boards or like to blog hop you may recognize the gorgeous gal in the photo below.  This week’s guest designer is the one and only, truly crafty diva, Elizabeth Currie Matsko!  Elizabeth is a breath of fresh air to the online crafting community – she lives and breathes the world of art between her job and the crafty creations she whips up in her home studio.  I could continue speaking highly of her because she has been so much fun to work with over the past month while getting things ready for her guest appearance.  Instead,  I’m going to step aside and let you see for yourself what an amazing person Elizabeth really is!  If you want to see some real talent and great project ideas with fantastic video tutorials you need to hop on over to http://www.217creations.blogspot.com – trust me, you won’t regret it!

Hi! My name is Elizabeth Currie-Matsko and I am the owner of www.217creations.blogspot.com

I have been scrapbooking for over 10 years now.  I bought my first Expression in September 2009 and my Gypsy shortly after.  I have become hopelessly addicted to anything Cricut, including the Cricut.com message board.  You may know me better at makeupgirl217.  I usually spend most of my online time hanging out in Gypsy Chat or Cricut Chat.  I don’t know that I would say I have a specialty in papercrafting.  I really enjoy so many aspects of this craft that I try and provide a variety of projects and tutorials to inspire my fellow crafters. When I am not crafting I am spending time with my husband and our 3 boys.  I am currently homeschooling our oldest.  My two oldest boys are both Autistic and so even in our family time we do a lot of arts and crafts as therapy.  Both of my boys love to play with the Cricut and my middle child loves doing the Sizzix Texture Boutique (great sensory input for Autistic Children).  For my “job” I am a freelance Makeup Artist.  I enjoy doing editorial makeup for photo shoots and fashion shows.  So I guess you could say art has infiltrated almost every aspect of my life!

Of course, this is just a small teaser…a little snippet of who Elizabeth is.  Wouldn’t you just love to get a makeover from her?  Make sure to check back in tomorrow to view Part I of Elizabeth’s interview!

What to do, what to do…looks like I may have to post Misty’s project and tutorial for you at a later date – how much later?  I don’t know what to tell you! *sniff*  She’s on the road headed to Indiana from New Mexico this week and  I  just got a message from her stating that she is still on the road and is unable to get online to send her project and tutorial for me to post!  OOps! :-)   (Psst….I bet she’s just REALLY distracted at the Pokemon Tournament and can’t think crafty thoughts at the moment! LOL! *grin*)  I’ll keep checking my email in hopes that she’s able to get online sometime soon and will post it as soon as I get it in my hot little hands! 

In the meantime, I’ll  have some new things to add (hopefully, later tomorrow).  I’m not sure if it’s the full moon or from  sniffing too much adhesive but my mojo is jammin’ the past few days and I’ve been busy creating and crafting in my studio – AND get this!  ACTUALLY MAKING STUFF!! LOL!   I LOVE that feeling and hope it continues now that my blog nightmare has been resolved! Yee-Haww! :-)

Hi Everyone!  It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for Part II of Misty’s Interview! I sure hope you’re enjoying Misty’s visit to OJS this week as much as I am!  The more I’m getting to know her the more interesting I’m finding Misty to be!  She is definitely a woman with a full plate, a great attitude, a fun personality and a mom who means business! How many moms do you know who are into Pokemon as much as her kids?  Yep, that’s exactly what I mean!  My kids now think she is a super star – I lost my “coolness factor” as a mom when my boys found out she’s currently hauling a truckload of kids ranging in age from 22-10 from New Mexico to Indiana to attend a Pokemon Tournament.    To top it all off, as busy as she is, she still makes time to scrap every day –  which is her way of decompressing! 

Today, we’re going to learn about Misty’s Creative side and how she responds to some very random questions at the end.  It’s fun reading so grab yourself a cuppa java or some tea and get comfy while Misty reveals more of “her story.”

  

My Creativity…. 

1.  Do you consider yourself to be an amateur, novice, or seasoned/expert crafter? seasoned (Kim: Paprika?)

2.   Which crafts have you explored but don’t really care for? painting.  I suck at it.  My things look scary (Kim: It’s okay…famous artists do paintings that I question….just give your paintings a name and call it art….)

3.   What craft have you NOT tried yet but would like to in the near future? I want to be a better seamstress.  The only thing I sew right now is paper. (Kim:  You could always stitch paper clothes.  Just crumble and recycle when dirty or run through the shredder..)

4.   If you knew you were going to be stranded on a deserted island but could take any two craft supplies with you, what would you choose and why?  A needle and thread so I could make fun leaf clothes for the natives.  With all the coconuts I would earn I would build a raft to high tail it back home to the rest of my most prized (crafty) possessions. (Kim:  Very smart)

5.   The number one craft supply you can never be without other than adhesive!  My trimmer (Kim:  You’ll have to let me know what you use…I’m looking for a new paper trimmer..)

6.   What is your preferred adhesive? tombow mono (Kim:  Whah?!  Not an ATG Gun? *wink*)

7.   Do you scrapbook?  Why do you scrapbook and what is your favorite thing to scrap? Yep, my kids are great to scrap.  We have a very active and fun life so there is a ton to scrap.  (Kim:  I bet you have nonstop scrapbooking opportunities with all the fun things you do with your family. I’m sooo far behind I don’t think I will ever be able to catch up – at least not in this lifetime)

8.   Do you have a favorite paper line and company? What is it? No not really (Kim:  I don’t really either.  There are paper lines I love but never stick with a particular brand…)

9.   Are you a card maker? Sometimes when I have too! LOL! (Kim:  If I didn’t know better I’d say this is a dreaded task? *grin*)

10..Have you ever sold anything you’ve made? Lots - I sell paper piecings,  whole layouts, and cards. (Kim:  Good for you!)

11.  If you won  $5,000 in a contest to be used at any ONE craft store.  Which one would it be and what would you buy?  Memory Miser of course *wink-wink* and it would be Cricut carts for sure.  Wait, and maybe a second expression.  I think mine may be beginning down a sad path. (Kim:  Of course to Memory Miser….and I know what you mean about the Cricut beginning down a sad path…I think mine has a bad case of indigestion lately…need to start planning for a backup soon.)

12.  What do you do when the mojo is no where to be found?  I check out Etsy - lots of great inspiration there.  I also take my kids somewhere fun, dress them up, and take lots of pictures(Kim:  I visit my blog friends and always leave feeling inspired)

13.  If you had to place all of your craft supplies in one box what size would you need? 12 x 12 x 12 seriously I have tons of stuff LOL (Kim:  Is that all? LOL! I will spare all of you by NOT answering this one… *wink*)

14.  Is there a particular color you are drawn to when crafting?  Blues and my best friend would say burgandy (Kim:  And I’d have to say black.  I love black as a base or accent in my crafts)

15.  What one thing needs to be done to pretty much every single thing you make before it looks like it’s finished? white gel pen details.  I love my new signo pen.  I love to doodle for my own hand done touch.  (Kim:  Gotta love those white gel pens by Signo – I buy them every time I see them in a store)

16.  How did you come up with your blog name and Cricut board screen name? well I scrap daily.  So I decided one day to start a blog.  Since I scrap daily I figured it would be fun to be the dailyscrapper.  I left my blog sorta plain and simple to emulate a newspaper sorta. (Kim:  I love hearing how a blog name was chosen – your blog name makes perfect sense)

17.  I f you had a choice between making a card, scrapbook page layout or altered art which would you choose and why? Scrapbooking.  I love to craft fun/different layouts.  I love watching my kids delight in the pages that will hold their photos.  Then they squeal as the look at their books. (Kim:  I don’t think I could pick one over another unless I generalize by saying anything crafty.  You’re right though – it’s so much fun to see your children get excited about a layout you made *smile*)

18.  Have you ever been published?  If yes, where?  A few time but where escapes me It has been a while. (Kim:  Really?  You don’t remember?  Wow…I buy every copy I can find and tell the world because I’m so excited. *smile*)

19.  What is your favorite thing about blogging?  The cool people I have met in places I will probably never see. (Kim:  I bet you never thought you’d be meeeting someone as cool as me. *snort*)

20.  If you find an incredible piece of scrapbook paper that is the perfect color, pattern, etc…do you find that you use it right away or hold on tight because it’s too pretty to use?  I use it right away because I tend to forget about them if I hold em.  Use it or lose it sorta thing LOL (Kim:  I’m doing much better with the “pretty paper” thing too but I do find that I save some of it for the perfect project but do end up using it sooner or later.)

21.  Are you a paper hoarder?  Nah but I do have a ton of paper (Kim:  You’re only a paper hoarder if you collect it but refuse to use it)

22.  Do you spend more time crafting/scrapping or shopping? crafting for sure.  I rarely shop.  I pretty much have what I need. (Kim:    I love shopping BUT I honestly could open my own store with all the stuff I have accumulated and do not shop like I used to because I’m quite certain I own it all – or really close…at least it seems that way)

23.  If I were to walk into your craft room right this very moment what would I notice first? The cool thing I am working on to show everyone.  hehehe (Kim:  I’m IMpatiently waiting.  I really think I get a little TOO excited about these interviews and project tutorials - is that healthy? )

24.  Do you have a favorite craft magazine? No, I don’t read them (Kim:  Good for you….you’re saving a lot of $$ by not reading them)

25.  What’s the craziest thing you’ve done with your Cricut machine?  Made a goofy sign for our PTO (Kim:  Goofy as in the Disney Goofy or as in a wacky silly sign?  I’m all about wacky…)

26.  Are you a DS or Gyspy user?  How often do you use it/them?  What do you use these programs for? I have both but use my gypsy way more.  I love not having to connect each cartridge.  I also love it’s portability. (Kim: Don’t tell anyone but I still don’t have a Gypsy - I’ve started to place an order for one a few times and then I change my mind at the last minute.  I have DS and hardly use it so I keep telling myself I probably don’t need it….Do I need it?  Provo Craft will you send me a Gypsy?)

27.  What is your favorite shape and font Cricut cartridges? Sesame Street Font.  I love Sunny Day.  It is a great chunky font that is super versitible. (Kim:  Wow…I wasn’t expecting you to say Sesame Street.  It is pretty cute but I have to admit I haven’t even taken that one out of the plastic yet.  Tisk-tisk….I better go check this baby out.)

28.  How often do you use your Cricut each week? Every day (Kim: That’s great that you make time every day – you did say it’s your way of decompressing, didn’t you?) 

29.  Black or white? white (Kim:  I have a hard time commiting to just one  because I like both – I’d have to be difficult if I were the one answering the question and ask what is it?  Nothing beats a crisp white t-shirt or button down shirt….but I prefer black  when it comes to  interior decorating accents and for design elements in craft projects – I love it)

31.  What’s your favorite food item and drink to have beside you when crafting? Fiji Water (Kim:  Hmmmm….Interesting…I’ve heard of Fiji water but have never had it…just wondering if it’s just a brand name or if it claims to do something remarkable….like cause great waves of creativity…)

Random Thoughts…

1.  What is the weirdest thing you’d ever admit to doing?  I snuck onto the golf corse with my hubby (while we were dating) and laid down on the grass.  We watched the stars for hours - see I’m boring and I find that weird. (Kim: I don’t see anything weird with this response!  I actually bet it was quite romantic, right?  * wink-wink-wink*….I’ll stop here before I need to add “dooo-bee-dooo-bee-doo.” LOL! Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to answer this question because I do weird things all the time – it’s what makes me, me! *chuckle*)

2.  What place in the U.S. would you .like to visit?  Washington.  What can I say I am a Twilight fan. (Kim:  Team Edward or Jacob? I’d love to check out Washington state also.  Seems like a beautiful area)

3.   If money weren’t an object what would you do with your life? I would take my family to visit the top ten tallest buildings in the world.  My boys are fascinated by architecture (Kim:  What a fun idea!  Can you just imagine the stories your kids would be able to share with their friends? And the photos…just imagine all the scrapbooking opportunities this would create!)

4.  If you were walking through a park and a genie appeared handing you a paper bag with $100,000 in cash with the instructions that you must get rid of it within in four hours, what would you do with it?  I would buy a small house for a friend of mine to move her family into.  (Kim:  What a generous thing to do for a friend – that’s REALLY quite an admirable thing to offer.  It tells me a lot about who you are. *smile*) 

5.  Do you prefer country or city life?  country (Kim:  Nothing beats the fresh clean air…the open space…the freedom…the abilty to run around outdoors in your unders without having  to worry about the neighbor 10 feet away having a cardiac arrest for seeing your polka dotted bloomers.)

6.  What’s your favorite word? Sepulveda (It’s a street in LA) seriously say it out loud It just feels cool rolling off your tongue.  (Kim: Ahhhh yes young grasshopper, sepulveda to you too….You’re so right…what a cool word….any idea what it means?)

7.  If I were to look inside your refrigerator what would I find? A mess! (Kim <—— is known for growing science experiments in her fridge)

8.   Do you collect anything?  What is it?  Pokemon cards.  Yes, I know my kids love it but I have this strange need to have completed collections.  So we have a ton of cards. (Kim:  Uhh…yeah… Misty….about that Pokemon thing…I just wanted to say thanks to you my “coolness factor” as a mom plummented to a ZERO rating with my kids and their friends. :-(   *sniff* They always thought I was pretty darn cool but now you blew my cover by sharing with all of us your Pokemon obsession!  How will I ever live up to such a reputation??? *sob*)

It’s Wednesday…Time for Part I of Misty’s Interview!

Hi Everyone! Hopefully you were able to join us yesterday when I introduced our newest guest designer  for the week, Misty from “A Daily Scrapper.” Misty shared all kinds of interesting tidbits of her life in her bio.  Now, Let’s learn a little more about Misty by following along with Part I of her interview…

Please note:  The phrase “dooo-bee-dooo-bee-dooo” = TMI (too much information!) it’s my way of filtering out information. *wink*

About Me… 

1.  Are you married? Yes

2.  Do you have children?  How many and how old? I have three children. Two boys ages 6 & 10 and a 3 year old girl (Kim:  I bet you stay REALLY busy!)

3.  What do you like to do in your free time? I play and coach basketball plus I play Pokemon with my boys. (Kim:  My boys think you are uber cool for playing Pokemon and leading a team.)

4.  If I were to ask your significant other, friend or family member who knows you very well to describe you as a person  what five adjectives do you think they would choose? Patient, kind, energetic, crafty, persistent, fun (hubby could not decide on just five)  sweet hubby (Kim:  At least he said nice things so it’s all good! *grin*)

5.  Do you have a favorite saying/quote?  What is it? “Patience is a virtue” (Kim:  I’ve always liked that quote but sometimes find it hard to live by!)

6.  Favorite genre of music…. country (Kim:  Wondering who your favorite musician is…)

7.  List your pet peeves… cutting in line (grrr! that drives me crazy!) Wait… and babies sitting on someones lap in a car.  H-e-l-l-o???? Car seat?! (Kim: When I’m in a store standing in a line trying to check out and it’s busy but there’s only 1-2 lanes open.  Then another cashier opens another lane and  says “Next in line.” Pretty much EVERY time the person that rushes over is the one who just started standing in line. THAT’s the kind of “cutting in line” that drives me crazy.)         

8.  What was your most embarrassing moment? Ut Oh….  So one would be the other night when I was sitting in the movie theatre.  At a quiet moment my sweet three year old announces “Hey mommy you farted.”   (Kim:  I have to admit I would have been mortified)

 9.  What was the funniest thing that has ever happened to you or you have done to someone else? One time when my six year old son was just a baby his father was playing with him and he had just eaten – he threw up right in…doooo-bee-do-beee-doooo (Kim:  This is my way of filtering – sorry Misty but this was a TMI moment ‘too much information’ for me! LOL!) Not so funny for him but I laughed so hard I was crying! Once my now 10 year old was 2 and we were driving to California.  He got car sick so my hubby pulled over and took him out of the car seat and all and hosed him down at one of those gas station water things.  That was funny.  He drove down the road holding the seat cover out the window to dry for the next 200 miles.  Oh Yeah and once my hubby was being silly and licked my sons face accidentally getting his eyeball.  My son… dooo-bee-do-bee-doooo.  That was funny! (Kim: I think you have a “thing” with cookies being tossed (I’m being nice – did you like that?)I have to admit…this is something I NEVER thought I’d be reading about in a guest designer’s interview! Eeww..disgusting! You have made me realize anything is possible! LOL! If you are reading this and REALLY want to know go ahead and send me an email and I will share the gross details with you! LOL!  Otherwise, you can thank me for sparing you!)

10.  What one thing in your life do you wish you could do over again?  I would probably not have moved to town.  I really miss living in the country.  I am a simple gal at heart. (Kim:    I’m a country girl living the city life.)

 11.  Share a memorable moment in your life, a time you will never forget.  This is gonna sound sad but it shaped how I viewed life from then on.  On my 18th birthday I found out one of my best friends had died in a car accident that morning.  She was like a sister to me.  I was devastated.  But it reminds me every day to live life to the fullest and make sure those you love know how important they are.  She is with me every moment.  (Kim:  That’s really sad  about your dear friend but so  very true about living life to its fullest.  Unfortunately, it seems like it takes a tragic loss or a close call for many people to appreciate the life they were given and to make the very most of it.)

12.  What do you find yourself doing that you said you would never ever do? Yelling my kids full names out the back door :) (Kim:  I think every mom is guilty of that.  I can still remember my own mom doing that to me….boy oh boy I knew I was in some serious t-r-o-u-b-l-e when I heard the first…middle…AND…last name being screeched!)

13.  Name three things you are completely and utterly proud of.  My 3 kids.  They are amazing extensions of who my husband and I are.  (Kim:  That’s a great feeling isn’t it?)                 

14.  Which drink would tell us more about your personality? Strawberry daiquiri sorry I am a wuss LOL  And no it does not mean I am fruity.  I would be more nutty! LOL! (Kim: Yeah…I think you hit the nutty description head on! LOL!  Daiquiri’s are okay so it’s all good. *wink*) 

15.  What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?  I do crazy things all of the time but the craziest would be what I am about to do.  I am driving 4 kids to a Pokemon Nationals tournament from Albuquerque, NM to Indianapolis, IN.  I will let you know how that goes.  LOL!  Me, a 22 year old, a 19 year old, a 16 year old, and a 10 year old in a F150.  Scary.  (Kim:  Crazy or did you mean insane?!  I’m sure glad we got this interview out of the way BEFORE your travels….no telling how you would have answered the questions once returning from this expedition *wink*)

16.  What makes you happy? Many many things.  Sunflowers, my babies smiling, watching my husband’s joy while he races.  Friends and Family. My Cricut chirping.  My mailman – no not like that……He delivers my dooo-bee-dooo-bee-doooo…actually I mean my crickey toys.  (Kim: *snorting* and *giggling* Wow…that was another unexpected surprise to hear in a guest designer’s interview… :::clearing throat::::… I’m not sure of the age of our readers soooo on that note…like I was saying….this is a CRAFT WEBSITE so I’m using my filter on anything that someone might find offensive! If anyone reading this wants to know what was said please email me on this one too!  It was funny BUT.. Sorry Misty! *wink-wink*)

17.  What makes you sad? Others hurting.  I have this thing about me called empathy.  More so than your average empathy.  When someone in a room hurts - I hurt.  Physically I am in pain. It is a hard blessing to have.  I can empathize and help anyone but I am pulled in many different directions because of it.  (Kim: Sounds like it makes you a caring person…someone who has  a big heart. )

 18.  What makes you angry?  Cutting in line  LOL! Seriously this is stupidity.  Seeing people use and abuse the system and see those who truly need it suffer on the side.  Our society’s lack of concern for one another.  I am a “love one another” sort without the hippie shoes and long braids. :) (Kim: But hippie shoes and long braids are groovy cool! Don’t you dig ‘em? If I didn’t know better I would say you REALLY SERIOUSLY have issues with someone cutting in line since it’s your pet peeve AND what makes you angry.  Are we talking about cutting in line at the grocery store or when you’re at a concert and you have to go potty REALLY bad and someone cuts in line because “they have to go worse than you do”? Can you clarify dudette?  Oh wait…that’s more like surfer talk, isn’t it?)

19.  Are you always early or terminally late?  Early.  Tardiness drives me batty.  It’s rude.  If I can get there with three crazy kids anyone can.   (Kim:  I strive to be on time or a few minutes early which I usually am unless I’m towing my husband along with me.  If that’s the case we are notoriously LATE because he’s never in a hurry except to be late!)

20.  Do you have any pets?  What are they?  A seven year old Australian Shepherd named Hotrod. Yes, I know, but we are a racing family! We also have a  four year old cat  named Randy.  (Kim:  Just wondering if you sign your cards from everyone in your family, including your pets. Has anyone has ever asked why you always leave your son Randy at home?)

21.  On a scale from 1 to 5 how organized are you?  1 Being not at all to 5 being super organized. 3-  I have the stuff and use it well but it tends to get messy and needs re-cleaning. LOL! (Kim:  A 3 is pretty decent.  I try to be a tidy crafter but I need to work on that…)

  
  My Childhood Memories…  

1.   Describe yourself as a child…Busy.  I played lots of basketball.  I was somewhat of an overachiever of sorts.  I had great grades, was the fastest runner, and the highest scoring player on my teams.  I was VERY competitive. (Kim: You lived an active childhood.)

2.   What did you enjoy doing as a child?   I love the water.  I enjoyed camping with my grandparents at the lake.  I loved playing in the river and would fly when I learned how to ski.  (Kim:  Sounds like you’re a bit of an adventurer and love being outdoors)

3.   You seem like you would be a prankster, did you ever pull pranks on your family or friends as a child?  What about now as an adult?!  I was not a prankster as a kid nor do I really do it now.  I was always the responsible oldest child.  Sorry nothing really funny here to share.  My husband on the other hand can be pretty mean if you know what I mean.  We have the whole yin and yang thing down.  (Kim:  You know what they say, opposites attract)

4.   What was your favorite comic/cartoon character?  Smurfette  (Kim: I adored Papa Smurf)

5.   What was your favorite toy?  My barbies and Garbage Pail Kids Cards (come on you know you had them.)  My favorites were super gross. (Kim:  I LOVED Barbies.  Do girls even play with those things anymore? I vaguely remember the Garbage Pail Kids – I think they came out when I was over the toy thing and into boys.  I’m sure I just dated myself again…I have a way of doing that when responding to everyone’s comments to this question.)

 

Misty, you sure are an interesting person!  I can see why all of the kids that know you think you’re a cool mom!

Please Welcome this Week’s Guest Designer….Misty with no last name!

Hi Everyone!  It’s a brand new week which means it’s time for me to introduce to you this week’s Master Olive Guest Designer! Please welcome Misty with no last name to the OJS website! Misty describes herself as being a scrapbooker before any other craft.  She  has a great blog  called “The Daily Scrapper” that she would love for you to visit and follow if you like what you see.  If you are an avid scrapbooker and find that your mojo is on vacation take a cruise over to her blog to get inspired!  Misty has worked super hard over the past few days to get the biography completed and to answer the interview questions and project before she takes off on a roadtrip with a group of kids this week.  You’ll have to read her interview to find out where she is headed.  If she is able, she plans on sending us a few notes along the way to let us know that her sanity is still in check and to answer any questions you may have! 

 So, on that note…let’s learn a little bit about Misty today!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Hi!  My name is Misty. I am a crafter, mom,  teacher (we homeschool sorta,) a basketball coach, a pokemon leader, and so much more.  Daily, I wonder how it all works but it just does.  I am the sort of person who cannot stand the word failure so we trudge on.  I always tell my kids we will do this through strength and perseverance.  I have three wonderful kids who  are the light of my life.  I have an amazing husband. My life is fantastic.  I get busy.  I get tired.  But everyday I am thankful for who and where I am.  I am a Texan with country values.  I am where I am today because of the trials and tribulations that I have overcome.  I am always with my kids.  I have an ability to talk to them and connect with them. I love being the mom that the kids love. 

I started crafting seven years ago when my middle son was born.  I love it.  The color combinations look like math to me and I love math.  I am able to see colors as numbers and love what I can come up with!  Then…I found paper piecing.  I am hooked!  I am an equal opportunity scrapper –   I use anything and everything!  I don’t stay with one company or another when I scrapbook.  I may have three different brands of ink on one layout.  I make sure every day to sit down and create something. It is my decompression time.  

(Kim:  I asked Misty to elaborate on some areas of her biography including the following:  what do you mean by “we homeschool sorta”?  What is a pokemon leader?  What makes your husband so special?  what are your favorite color combos?  Where do you live?  This is what she sent to me:

I run a Pokemon league here in town.  I am also a professor so I judge tournaments and a Tournament Organizer for smaller tournaments here in town.We do a connection type of school here in Albuquerque.  The kids go M-Th 4 hours and then we turn in 13-16 hours from home.  So we homeschool and they go to school.  It is a great combination of homeschooling with socialization.  The kids are super awesome.  Very well behaved children.  It is a dream school in my eyes.  Plus my oldest is about to enter junior high (he is a year ahead) and this is a GREAT school for him to be in.  Not nearly as many silly junior high things to deal with.  Think Diary of a Wimpy Kid. LOL!

I am from Texas but have been in NM for about 15 years.  I am still a Texan at heart.  All of my family and some of my very best friends still live in Texas.  We go back home quite often.  My husband’s dad lives in Texas as well.  We are rooted there and one day hope to move home.                                             
 
I have been married to my husband for seven years.  My husband is awesome because he has been a rock for me.  When I met him eight years ago, I was a single mom trying to find out again who I was. He has always been supportive of whatever I want to do.  He is my biggest cheerleader.  He has worked hard to keep me home with the kids.  He is a hard worker and loves us so much.  He is my knight in a shining amour.  When we met I was having a hard time.  I had run out of gas in the middle of the road.  I called my KIA care (I had a sportage) service.  They sent Sterling to help me.  He was in a white tow truck and looked so adorable.  He was so nice.  He even stopped at a gas station and filled up my sportage.  I sent him a thank you card and he called back.  Next day he brought me one of every breakfast burrito on the menu from a local restaurant.  When my boss brought him back he told me he had met my Mr. Keeper.  Boy was he right!  
 
My favorite color combination? I’d have to say I love  blues and browns together.

OLIVE KIDS: TOP SECRET…”Bada Bing Ice SCREAM in a Bag” Recipe

-TOP SECRET-

CONFIDENTIAL!!! PLEASE DO NOT SHARE!

WARNING: This recipe is known for  self-destructing within 24 hours of being posted.  “Bada Bing Ice SCREAM in a Bag” is extremely addictive.  Once you start making it you won’t want to stop. Long lines of ice cream craving kids have been known to congregate outside houses where Olive Kids!  have been spotted making this secret concoction.  Use precautionary measures to dispose of all evidence once you eat it- this includes brushing your teeth and garling too.

 

CHOCOLATE Bada Bing Ice SCREAM Recipe:  For a 1 cup single serving

1 cup Half and Half (this can be regular full fat or fat free), regular milk works too!

2 tsp. vanilla extract

2 TBS. cocoa powder

3-4 TBS sugar

2 cups Rock Salt, table salt or Kosher Salt (the larger chunk salt works the best though!)

1-2 cups of ice (or snow if making it in the winter)

 1 gallon size ziploc bag OR a plastic dish with a tight fitting lid large enough to hold ice, rock salt

and sandwich size bag full of milk.

Top Secret Directions

1.   Gather all of the ingredients listed above!

2.   Measure 1 cup of Half andHalf.

3.  Carefully pour the Half and Half into a ziploc bag.

4.  If you want your ice SCREAM to be chocolate this is when you’re going to add 2 tbs. cocoa powder.

If you don’t want chocolate ice SCREAM skip this step to make vanilla!

5.  Add 3-4 tbs. sugar.  Start with 3 tbs.  Stir the milk mixture.  Dip your finger in to see if it tastes the way you like it.

Is it sweet enough?  If not, add another tablespoon but don’t over do it!

6.   Add 2 tsp. Vanilla.  (The photo shows us just pouring it  into the bag straight from the bottle.  There was only a drop left so make sure to measure it when you add it to YOUR bag!)

7.  Double check to make sure you have added the milk, cocoa, sugar and vanilla.  If it’s all in the bag, carefully seal the bag closed. 

Be extra careful to make sure the bag is completely sealed so it doesn’t leak!

8.  For this step you can do a couple of different things.  You can either place the rock salt and ice inside of a gallon size ziploc bag

OR in a plastic dish with a tight fitting lid that is large enough to hold the salt, ice and bag full of ice Scream ingredients.  We typically use a bag but

I was out of bags the last time so we used a plastic dish with a lid!

(Photo showing rock salt – this is the same salt you use in the winter to melt ice outside)

10.  Add 1-2 cups of ice  to the gallon size ziploc bag or dish with lid (if you can’t fit the entire 2 cups just set aside the extra.  It can be added once some of it melts.)

11.  Place the sealed sandwich bag holding the ice SCREAM ingredients to the dish or gallon size bag right on top of the ice and salt.

Seal the bag – make sure it’s completely sealed…if using the dish with lid, now’s the time to snap the lid on making sure it’s completely in place.

Make sure no one is watching you do this VERY top secret move….START SHAKING THE BOWL/GALLON SIZE BAG!

12.  Continue shaking the dish/plastic bag for 5-8 minutes!  Make sure to rotate the dish/bag by turning it upside down and back and forth while shaking.

 

13.  KEEP SHAKING but make sure no one is watching you!  If mom/dad wonders what you’re doing say you’re exercising and then do just that! 

Jog in place while shaking the dish/bag! If the ice is melting drain some of the water and add a few more pieces of ice and then reseal the dish/bag.

14.  After shaking it for 5-8 minutes carefully check the ice SCREAM inside the dish/plastic bag.  If it’s the consistency of a soft serve ice cream cone it’s done.  If not,

KEEP SHAKING for another 3-5 minutes. Once it resembles soft serve ice cream, rinse or wipe off the plastic bag holding the ice SCREAM.  Open the bag and dig in or squeeze it into a bowl.

15.  Quickly peek to make sure no one is watching (sometimes it’s best to eat this ice cream in a closet or under the kitchen table where no one will see you.) 

16. Mmmmm!  Enjoy but don’t eat too fast or you’ll get brain freeze!  As soon as your done, get rid of all evidence before someone finds it!  Wash the dishes you dirtied… Put the ingredients back in their proper place….. Wipe your face off if you have a ring around your mouth… Quickly sneak to tbe bathroom to brush your teeth and gargle…. Make sure the coast is clear and then saunter back into the room where everyone else is at.  If someone says, “Do we have an ice cream?  Or It smells  like ice cream in here just give them your famous “What?  Are you crazy or something?”  look.  If  there’s a knock on your door within a few minutes of eating it DON’T Asnwer the door!  I repeat – DON’T ANSWER! You might have hundreds of ice cream craving kids with trance like stares stampeding to your doorstep chanting “”I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!”

24 hours later…

(WARNING:  THIS RECIPE AND PAGE ARE GOING TO SELF IMPLODE IN 10…9….8…7…6…5…4..3…2..1….?!   1….1……1…..?  That’s weird.  Nothing happened.  You must have been very cautious with this super classified ice SCREAM information…Good Work, Olive!)

Jeannie Phillips Shares a Special Card and Tutorial…

Hi Everyone!  It’s Friday which means it’s time for a really fun project and tutorial created by this week’s guest designer, Jeannie Phillips.  If you’re familiar with Jeannie’s cards and her very unique card style I’m sure you will LOVE what she is sharing with us!  Take a look a this BEAUTIFUL card called “The Perfect Summer Vacation.”  Don’t you just feel like crawling into the picture?  I can almost hear the seagulls and smell the salty scent of the ocean waves….and boy oh boy, if I could just sit down in that chair for a moment! CRICUT & GYPSY 

Palm tree and its layers cut @ h 4.41…set the width and the height will be right… I used the contour feature to remove some of the lines…see mat shot below… the removed cuts are in grey.… on the Cricut I would cut these @ 4 ½ inches 3 times. 

Sailboat cut @ w 1.39 x h 1.52… On the Cricut I would cut this at 1 ½ inches.

Starfish cut, cut @ w 2.09 x h 1.82 two times…on the Cricut I would cut these @ 1 ¾ inches.

Waves (2) (border cut) welded to George squares cut @ w 3.51 x h 0.85 inches… on the Cricut I would cut this at 1 inch and trim to the width that I needed then glue to a hand cut rectangles…one a bit taller than the other. 

Beach Chair and its layer cut @ w 2.34 x h 2.11.…. I used the contour feature to remove one of the chair layer pieces…that is in grey on the mat shot….on the Cricut I would cut these @ 2 inches.

Doodle Charms 

Sun cut @ w 3.33 x h 2.70 ….. on the Cricut I would cut this @ 2 3/4 inches.

Rectangles for the waves… you will need to unlink the width and height to get these sizes and set real dial size… Smaller rectangle cut @ w3.50 x h 2.61  Larger rectangle cut @ w 3.50 x h 2.81… Remember to set real dial size… Using the Cricut I would hand cut these both at width 3 ½ inches and the heights at 2 ½ inches and 2 ¾ inches.

Card base is 4 ¼ x 5 ½, Frame Piece 4 x 5 ¼ , Background piece 3 ½ x 4 ¾… these cuts are on the inside and outsides of my cards… Sentiment piece 2 ¾ x 4 inside only….. I cut all of these with my paper trimmer.

Hi Everyone and welcome back to OJS!   Is this week flying by as fast for you as it is for me???  Today is Thursday which means it’s time for Part II of Jeannie Phillips Interview!  

Before we get started I just want to take a quick moment to tell all of you who are following along this week  how much I appreciate all of the comments and emails you have been leaving! I LOVE ‘EM and PLEASE keep them coming!  I REALLY appreciate it and I know Jeannie and Carrie have enjoyed reading the comments you have left for them too!  Such a simple gesture that REALLY makes all the hardwork and effort I have put into this  new website  the past few weeks worthwhile!  So thank you , thank you, thank you! :-)   Also, thank you SO much to all of you who are following OJS – I recognize a lot of faces from our previous blog (thanks for seeking out OJS and coming back again!) and I am seeing many new faces too  which makes me just thrilled to pieces!  You guys ROCK!  LOL!   One more thank you needs to go out to all of you who  have posted my new URL on your blogs/websites-  I am so grateful by this act of kindness! I was expecting an empty “house” this week where Carrie and Jeannie were going to be interviewed just for me - it’s been a pleasant surpise to see so much support from all of you! What a wonderful community of friends I am so proud to be a part of! (That’s kind of funny… I sound like I’m giving a speech after accepting my first Oscar, don’t I?!)  And on that note….LET’S GET STARTED!

 

Here’s Part II of Jeannie Phillips Interview….

  

 My Creativity

  1. Do you consider yourself to be an amateur, novice, or seasoned/expert crafter? Novice… I still have so much to learn…but I have come so far.  (Kim:  I think card crafting  extraordinaire  would be more fitting)
  2. The number one craft supply you can never be without other than adhesive! Paper!! (Kim: You can NEVER have enough and no matter how many thousands of sheets you have it seems like you still never have the “just right pattern” for something you want to make!)
  3. What is your preferred adhesive? ATG gun and Quilling Glue (Kim:  Quilling Glue?  I am an adhesive fiend – I LOVE experimenting with different types and brands of adhesives but I’ve never tried Quilling Glue…looks like you just prompted a new product investigation for me to pursue!)
  4. Do you scrapbook?  I love love card making…but I am not good at scrapbooking at all.  I know that sounds strange… people that scrapbook tell me its like making a card just bigger…and        making room for pictures… but I am not so sure.  What I like about making a card is that is has a beginning and an end.  I think that is one thing that I like about card making is that a card is finished and has nothing to do with the next card.  I like sitting back and feeling like I have finished something good.  (Kim:  I started out scrapbooking -and then slowly starting dabbling in card making because to me a card was just a smaller version of a scrapbook page – isn’t that funny?  Total opposite of what you said.)
  5. Do you have a favorite  paper line and company? Yes Basic Grey (Kim:  What’s not to like about Basic Grey? Great paper.  I really don’t know if I could pick a favorite paper line…  I do seem to be drawn often to the Jenni Bowlin paper line… Graphic 45 ….Webster’s Pages… K&Co….shall I continue?)
  6. What do you do when the mojo is no where to be found? Pray!… I pray all the time for cards… my favorite way to get a card idea is to ask and thank God for a card idea, then take a nap and wake up with one.  I give God all the glory for my cards and any ability I have to make my cards.  The ability that I have to design a card really changed when I started praying for  a card idea, it   literally changed overnight when I said that first prayer.  Try it!  (Kim:  Alrighty…I will and you will be the first to see it once it’s finished!  Anyone else reading this want to do it with me?)
  7. If you had to place all of your craft supplies in one box what size would you need? Are those Pod storage containers considered a box? (Kim:  Do they have four sides?  A top?  Works for me)
  8. What one thing needs to be done to pretty much every single thing you make before it looks like it’s finished? Inking all the pieces (Kim: I was wondering where your famous inking technique was going to appear in this section…now I’m waiting to see if there is any mention of your layering technique with popdots…aka…dimensionals)
  9. If you had a choice between making a card, scrapbook page layout or altered art which would you choose and why? Card making hands down… I just loved cards!…I love that you can finish a project in one setting… I love that it something you can do for someone else…. I love that you can make a piece of art on a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ piece of paper…its just so much fun… so rewarding.  (Kim:  I would never have guessed that you loved making cards so much *wink* *wink*)
  10.  Have you ever been published?   If yes, where? Yes, in the Cricut Chirp several times. (Kim:  Way to go!)
  11. Are you on any design teams? BBTB2 presently, I have done The Cuttle Bug Spot and  The Gypsy Spot (retired) too. (Kim:  I know I have seen your cards all over the place  and I can pick out your cards instantly! You definitely have your own unique style)
  12. Have you ever entered any contests/challenges and won? Yes once.. That was really fun! Somebody saw one of my cards and suggested that I enter this one contest, she said that my card matched the quote for the contest.  So I entered and won.  But I am pretty chicken to enter contests… it gives me great anxiety.  (Kim:  When I’m under the gun or feeling pressured my mojo will sometimes get all wacky so I totally get what you mean about the anxiety issue.  If I’m r-e-l-a-x-e-d  the creative juices flow and I can pump out the creativity. )
  13. What is your favorite thing about blogging? That I have a history of my cards and how much my cards have changed and improved over time.  (Kim:  That is a great part of it but I also love being able to connect with fellow crafters.)
  14. Are you having fun being the second Master Olive on Olive Juice Studio’s blog? Yes, but it makes me nervous.  I am just a card maker… that still has so much to learn… will people really be interested in me???  (Kim:  Awwww…you don’t have to be nervous!  You’ve done a  fabulous job with everything.  I’m the one who was nervous having you as a guest with a blog on Monday morning that had only three followers and no one knew that OJS had moved to a new URL.  I knew how hard you had been working on this for my other blog and then the Blogger fiasco happened.  It started out as as a  tragedy that ended up being a blessing - it’s all good)
  15. How many hours a day/week do you typically find yourself crafting? About 12 hours a week.  (Kim:  Really?  I would have expected much more with all of the detail you include in each of your cards)
  16. If you find an incredible piece of scrapbook  paper that is the perfect color, pattern, etc…do you find that you use it right away or hold on tight because it’s too pretty to use? I have a hard time using it if I have just one piece of the perfect, pretty paper.  (Kim:  I used to be that way but I had to get over it because there was a point when EVERY piece of paper was a favorite!  I had hundreds and hundreds of pieces of paper but no paper to create with…not a good situation to be in! )
  17. Are you a paper hoarder?  Yes! (Kim:  Guilty of hoarding too)
  18. If I were to walk into your craft room right this very moment what would I notice first?  The mess!  (Kim:  I should refrain from commenting because my studio looks like a landfill at the moment.  I REALLY need to spend some time reorganizing .  It’s one of those jobs I dread but also know that no one else is going to do it for me so I need to put those big girl britches on and tackle the monster.)
  19. Are you a DS or Gyspy user?  How often do you use it/them?  What do you use these programs for? I love my Gypsy… I always use it when making a card now that I have it… its wonderful for laying out my card and getting everything the right size, the first time.  I love to weld with it.  I love that I can share my files.  I would buy my Gypsy again and again if I had it to do over! (Kim:  If I didn’t know better I’d say that was a plug for Provo Craft!  Better be careful PC just might make you ambassador of their new Cricut Circle Club for speaking so highly! )
  20. What is your favorite shape and font Cricut cartridges? There are just too many to have one favorite! (Kim:  Every time I get a new cartridge I tell myself “THIS is my absolute favorite cartridge”…only thing is I’ve  said that well over 80x myself.)
  21. How many cartridges do you own? About 80  (Kim:  I used to know how many I had but I have no idea anymore.  They just keep cranking out cartridges and I just keep adding them to my stash…maybe I don’t want to know…)
  22. How often do you use your Cricut each week?  3 or more times a week.  (Kim:  Shhh…don’t tell anyone but I haven’t used mine in nearly three weeks – I’ve been so busy trying to get this new website setup that I’ve had no time for anything else.  I haven’t gone this long since we moved last spring…I’m having  bug withdrawals -  BUT I do  plan on playing all day tomorrow! *wink*)
  23. If you were asked to enable every crafter reading this to buy just one craft tool/machine or supply that you think everyone should own… what would it be? A Cricut!  (Kim:  It is by far the most used tool I have ever owned.)

 

  1. Random Thoughts

  2. If the whole world were listening to you all at once, what would you say? Let’s go out and change the world!.. All you have to do is love everyone around you, everyone that you come in contact with. Remember love is a verb, an action word. Love is patient and kind.  “Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way.  It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices when the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (I Corinthians 13:4-6) Now let go and change the world with love.  (Kim:  If you COULD only share this with the whole wide world at the same time……what a powerful well versed message it would be.)
  3. Are you good at making people smile? Yes I am! What do you do to make it happen? I smile.. And I make an effort to share any good thought I have about a person with that person.  If I think she has a pretty smile, I say it out loud to that person.  If I think wow he is always helpful, I tell that person. One day somebody told me something nice about me… it made me think that I could change a persons day if I say the nice things. So I try always to tell a person the nice things I think about them. Sometimes people look at me like I am crazy… but that is ok. I keep sharing! (Kim:  I have a favorite quote from Leo F. Buscaglia  that has been on my desk for the psat several years and it seems to be a perfect fit to what you just wrote.  “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”)
  4. What place outside of the U.S. would you like to visit? New York City (Kim: I’ve  never been to NYC but I think  it would be a great place to visit.)
  5.  If you were walking through a park and a genie appeared handing you a paper bag with $100,000 in cash with the instructions that you must get rid of it within in four hours, what would you do with it?  I would first give my 10% to God.  Then I would give each of my kids $25,000  to get their life started. Lets see that leaves me $40,000 I would then give each of my parents $10,000. That leaves me $20,000… I would love, love, love passing the rest out just to watch peoples eyes light up… I think I would give 10 families 1,000 and then give the rest out $100 at a time.  In four hours I couldn’t spend it on me in any way that could change my life.  But watching people light up, that memory would be with me forever, that could change my life. (Kim:   All I can say is if everyone thought the way you did and was as giving as you  are, our world would be a MUCH happier place.  Who would have thought such a silly question would result in such an enlightening response? I don’t think I could have asked for a better ending to our interview. )
